Mrs. Mary Stava Passed Away Monday, Feb. 13. Bruno, Feb. 20 - Mrs. Mary Stava, aged pioneer resident of Butler county, passed away Monday, Feb. 13, at 3:30 p.m. at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Terezie Coufal. Mrs. Stava, who was 89 years, 11 months and 2 days of age, had been ill for two weeks with bronchial pneumonia, which, with her advanced age, was the cause of her death. Funeral services for Mrs. Stava were held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, from the home to St. Anthony's church. Rev. Father Kvitek said requiem high mass and conducted the services. The pallbearers were six grandsons, Adolf T. Coufal, Edward R. Coufal, Louis B. Coufal, Fred J. Coufal, Henry J. Pallat and Joseph L. Pallat. Burial was in St. Anthony's cemetery beside the grave of Mr. Stava. The Holy Rosary society, of which Mrs. Stava was a member, attended the funeral services in a body. Mrs. Stava was born March 11, 1843, at Bohunov, Czechoslovakia, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jakub Toman. She was united in marriage to Frank Stava in 1871 and on November 1, 1872, Mr. and Mrs. Stava arrived in the United States and settled on a farm near Bruno, Neb., which was the family home until time of death. Since the death of Mr. Stava December 4, 1925, Mrs. Stava had been cared for by her daughter, Mrs. C. J. Coufal. To Mr. and Mrs. Stava six children were born, three of them dying in infancy, and three surviving Mrs. Stava, namely, Anton V. Stava and Mrs. Leopold Pallat of Wahoo and Mrs. C. J. Coufal of Bruno. Mrs. Stava is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. In attendance at the funeral from elsewhere were A. V. Stava, Mrs. Leopold Pallat, Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Pallat and daughter, Adeline, and Joseph Pallat from Wahoo, Mr. and Mrs. Louis H. Stava, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Stava and Anton Stava, Jr., from Omaha, Mr. and Mrs. Adolph T. Coufal and Adolf Stava from Surprise, Mr. and Mrs. Edward R. Coufal and Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Rehne and son from Brainard, Louis B. Coufal from Seward, Mrs. Fred Kadlecek and son, Ernest, and Fred Mazanec from Dwight, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Shalon and Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Rerucha from Garrison, Mrs. Vaclav Zeleny from Swanton and Mrs. Katherine Dworak and son, Anthony, from David City. Mrs. Stava, a devout Catholic, was of cheerful, kindly disposition, a good neighbor and friend. She, with Mr. Stava, experienced the hardships of early pioneer life and did their part in development of the community in which they lived so many years and where she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
