Marie spent her early years in Brookings County, near White, SD, and received her education in rural schools in Brookings County and the White Public School. She was united in marriage to Herbert N. Egeberg, on May 25, 1930, in Canton, SD. Herbert passed away on January 22, 1995, and Marie married Vila Gates in Arlington, SD, on February 21, 1998.... Marie Viola Green was born on December 31, 1912, in White, South Dakota, the daughter of Thomas and Rosa (Laabs) Green. Marie spent her early years in Brookings County, near White, SD, and received her education in rural schools in Brookings County and the White Public School. She was united in marriage to Herbert N. Egeberg, on May 25, 1930, in Canton, SD. Herbert passed away on January 22, 1995, and Marie married Vila Gates in Arlington, SD, on February 21, 1998. Vila passed away on April 25, 2004. Marie was employed at the Steam Laundry in Brookings for over twenty years. Marie was a member of the First Lutheran Church, in Brookings, SD. She enjoyed sewing, quilting and crocheting. She is survived by three sons; Darwin and his wife Barbara of Madison, SD, Ronald and his wife Sharan of Brookings, SD, Robert and his wife JoEllen of Morton, IL; one daughter, Marian Egeberg of Aurora, CO; one son-in-law, Roy Mann of Urbandale, IA; fourteen grandchildren; several great grandchildren; one brother, Wilbur Green of Watertown, SD; one sister, Elma Herr and her husband Harlan of Webster, SD; one sister-in-law Evelyn Green of Russellville, OH; one brother-in-law Ralph Righi of Glendale, CA, and several step-children, several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Marie was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; one son, Dale Egeberg, one daughter Bernice Mann; four sisters, Luella, Irene, Margie, Mavis and three brothers, Francis, Willis and Melvin. Funeral services will be held at 10:30am, Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at the First Lutheran Church in Brookings, SD. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, at the First Lutheran Church in Brookings.
