Description	:	Marilyn Dolan 87, known by many as Beanie, passed away peacefully at a Bangor hospital, Friday July 8th surrounded by her loving family. Marilyn was born April 29, 1929 in Milo to Fred Dewitt and Della Gould Dewitt. After high school she attended Husson College and graduated in 1948 with an Associate’s Degree in Business. Read More	Marilyn Dolan 87, known by many as Beanie, passed away peacefully at a Bangor hospital, Friday July 8th surrounded by her loving family. Marilyn was born April 29, 1929 in Milo to Fred Dewitt and Della Gould Dewitt. After high school she attended Husson College and graduated in 1948 with an Associate’s Degree in Business. She began working for Bangor Hydro Electric Co. and often reflected on the fond memories that she had of the interesting places and people she met while working in Downeast Maine. It was in Machias that she met her husband to be Charles Dolan. They were married in 1955 and resided in Lincoln and together were very active in their community. Charles and Marilyn became lifelong members of the First Congregational Church. Marilyn was a homemaker and devoted her time to raising four daughters. In 1957 they purchased a camp on Cold Stream Pond, Enfield and spent summers there with family. When their daughters were grown Marilyn opened the Back Door Gift Shop on West Broadway in Lincoln. This gave her the opportunity to meet many people and to create lifelong friendships. After 18 years of owning the business Charles and Marilyn retired and moved to the lake. There they spent many wonderful years together gardening, hosting family gatherings, enjoying “Jam” sessions at the local Grange and traveling. When Charles sadly passed away in 2008, Marilyn became more involved in the community of Enfield. She was a devoted member and Past Master of the Amadamast Grange. Marilyn found joy in the fellowship of the Grange and spent much of her time planning events, cooking and decorating the hall for the many functions. Marilyn was very proud to be a member of the Grange. Even at the age of 86 she remained active in maintaining her home and her gardens, playing the piano, knitting and conversing about current affairs. Marilyn was an accomplished quilter, and enjoyed the camaraderie of her weekly quilting class. Every family member and many friends can now find comfort in one of the beautiful quilts she created. Marilyn was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, and leaves behind her brother Eben Dewitt and his wife Joanne of Milo; her 4 daughters, Jannifer O’Connor and husband Jay of Scarborough, Rebecca MacDonald and husband Paul of Enfield, Melanie Thompson and husband Matthew of Wales and Caroline Fontaine and husband Michael of Old Orchard Beach; four grandchildren, Sgt. Christopher Samiya and his wife Jamiee; and her 3 great grandchildren, of Compton N.H, Benjamin O’Connor of Boston MA, Colin O’Connor of Portland and Sean O’Connor of Scarborough. Marilyn also leaves behind five loved niece and nephews and their family’s; Jeff and Diane Steves of California, Tom and Aoy Steves of N.C., Joanne and Greg Sims of Texas, David Hamlin of Provincetown, MA, Dick And Dede Dewitt of Milo. It was Marilyn’s wish to thank those that sent cards, flowers and stopped in for visits after her stroke in March. This support gave her the strength to recover so that she was able to return to the lake to enjoy her last months. Marilyn was deeply touched by the outpouring of support and love shown to her. Marilyn’s family is grateful for the caring ladies that spent time at night with her and for the Community Health nurses and therapists. A graveside service will be held at Evergreen Cemetery, Park St., Milo. If wished in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the House in the Woods military and family retreat of Lee, Maine which was close to our mother’s heart or her beloved Amadamast Grange of Enfield in memory of Marilyn.
