She was born Sept. 13, 1928 in Pleasant Grove, Des Moines County, Iowa to Ervin Charles Miller and Gladys C. Thomas Miller. Marilyn, known to most as “Lynn”, has two brothers who preceded her in death; Curtis Eugene Miller and Harold Lee Miller. Their wives Mrs. Helen Miller and Mrs. Elizabeth Miller are yet living. Marilyn, known to most as “Lynn”, has two brothers who preceded her in death; Curtis Eugene Miller and Harold Lee Miller. Their wives Mrs. Helen Miller and Mrs. Elizabeth Miller are yet living. Lynn grieved the loss of her father who died when she was in her second year of college at the University of Iowa. Lynn enjoyed many years in close relationship to her young widowed mother centered on family gatherings, sewing projects and excursions with her children, nieces, nephews and grandchildren.Lynn was blessed to have a loving family and extended family in her daily life, while attending schools in Pleasant Grove and later as a graduate of New London High School (1946). Family love and unity was meaningful in her life. Sacrifices made during the Depression and World War II ignited a strong love of God and her country and for the freedoms we now enjoy. Marilyn married Lon Clarence Burr a recent veteran of WWII and native of West Liberty, Iowa on Aug. 15, 1948 at the Presbyterian Church in New London, Iowa. Lon was born on Aug. 19, 1925 to Clarence Nelson Burr and Irene Smith Burr, the youngest of six children. Marilyn and Lon began their wedded life farming in West Liberty. Their example of a faith-filled and loving companionship of 66 years has blessed the family immensely; providing a stable foundation for their posterity. Marilyn is survived by her husband Lon of Carthage Mo., a daughter Liesa Burr Newman of West Des Moines, Iowa, wife of Arthur Newman, a son Lyman Burr of Carthage, Mo., husband of Elaine Waring Burr, a grandson Clifford Lawrence Newman of South Jordan, Utah husband of Arielle Badger Newman who recently gave birth to Lynn and Lon’s first great grandchild, Baird Arthur Newman, a grandson Addison Lee Burr and a granddaughter Aurelia Elizabeth Burr of Carthage, Mo. Marilyn’s contagious laughter was often felt and enjoyed by those who loved her. She was always ready and energetic and eager to help a friend with a project and then relax into the late hours visiting and playing a game of bridge. Lynn and Lon spent much of their retirement years traveling with their RV to visit family and forged many new friendships along the way. They were snowbirds in California, Florida and finally Weslaco, Texas. A memorial is being arranged at the YMCA to keep alive Marilyn’s love for children and swimming. Memorials may be mailed to Fair Acres Family YMCA, 2600 S Grand Ave., Carthage, MO 64836. Graveside services will be held at a later date.
