Marilynn Joyce, who was known as “Dolly”, was born on January 25, 1929, at Hull, the daughter of Edward and Dena (Jellema) De Jong. She was raised on a farm near Hull, where she attended a country school in Rock Township and graduated from the Western Christian High School. On December 21, 1949, she married Donald Richard Boote in Hull. They made their home on a dairy farm by Hull, which is now within the city limits. “Don” passed away on November 22, 1971, in Sioux City, after 21 years of marriage. Besides being a homemaker and assisting on the farm, Marilynn was a bookkeeper at the Iowa State Bank in Hull. In 2015, she became a resident of Aspen Heights Assisted Living in Hull. She was a member of the First Reformed Church, where she belonged to the Women’s Guild and participated in an adult Bible study. She also taught Sunday school and catechism classes for several years. She was the first female member of the board of directors of Hope Haven in Rock Valley. In addition, she volunteered at the Treasure Chest and the Pleasant Acres Care Center, both in Hull. Survivors include five sons, one daughter, Ronald, Terry, Dennis, Kevin, Leah and Alan; sixteen grandchildren; and eighteen great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Bradley Kent Boote; a grandson, Brent Odell Boote; and two brothers, Arthur and Tom.
