Funeral service will be 10:00 am Saturday, January 27, 2018 at Zion Lutheran Church, Sioux Falls with interment at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Ireton, IA. Visitation will be Friday, January 26, 2018 from 4:00-6:00pm at Heritage Funeral Home. From her birth on February 9, 1940 in Ireton, Iowa to her death, her greatest joy came from sharing in the lives of her family, especially her nieces and nephews and life-long friend Yvonne Van Wyhe. Marilyn was born to William and Arlenje (Webert) Zimmerman and baptized at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ireton, Iowa. She graduated from Hawarden High School in 1958. During high school, Marilyn worked at Central Cafe’. After graduation, she made her career working for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in Hawarden, Iowa and Sioux Falls. She fondly recalled her time as a switchboard operator and the relationships she developed with co-workers during her 47 years with the company. Marilyn was referred to by her loving nieces and nephews as “Aunt Meme” and she dedicated much of her life to supporting them in their activities and the growth of their own families. She took great pride in documenting the lives of everyone she loved through pictures and film. The only time she was found without her camera was when she exchanged it for her cleaning bucket. Meeting family and friends for lunch dates and coffees was a regular part of her daily routine. Marilyn loved people most, but ice cream, shopping, her home, and her Cadillacs also brought her great joy. Marilyn’s walk with God began at her baptism and continued as a dedicated member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Hawarden and Zion Lutheran Church of Sioux Falls. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Sharon, and her niece Kimberly Hamilton. Left to honor her beautiful and generous spirit are her siblings, Billy (Dorthy) Zimmerman, Janice Hamilton, Pat (Mark) DeSutter, and Karon (Chuck) Tiltrum, many nieces and nephews, and friend Yvonne Van Wyhe. - Heritage Funeral Home
