She was born March 27, 1925, in Marietta, KS, the daughter of Ernest Samuel and Clara Mabel Adams Young. She graduated from Oketo High School in 1944. She was married to Winton H. Brooks on June 3, 1944, in Marysville, KS. He died September 22, 1979. She lived on a farm southwest of Axtell, where she and her husband farmed for 34 years and where they raised their family. She had attended the United Methodist Church in Beattie, and was a member of the HEO Club of Beattie (Helping Each Other Club). She also worked on the election board in Marshall County. She is survived by son, Jimmy Brooks, Beattie, KS; daughters, Linda Kay Nichols, Topeka, KS; Norma Jean Perry, Topeka, KS; Karen Joan Bernasek, Mayetta, KS; brother, Robert Young, Marysville, KS; sisters, Helen Schneider, Beatrice, NE; Ruth Rohmeyer, Summerfield, KS; Burt Hellmer, Oketo, KS; 17 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Besides her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by son, Merlin Brooks, and grandson, Bradley Brooks. Funeral services were held March 25, 1999, at the Beattie United Methodist Church, Beattie, KS. Burial was in Beattie Union Cemetery.
