She was born Aug. 13, 1933, in Columbus, Mont., to Charles and Gladys Pelton; the youngest of five children. She grew up on the Pelton Ranch, four miles south of Fishtail on the West Rosebud River. She was born Aug. 13, 1933, in Columbus, Mont., to Charles and Gladys Pelton; the youngest of five children. She grew up on the Pelton Ranch, four miles south of Fishtail on the West Rosebud River. Marilyn attended the one-room West Rosebud grade school, where she rode her horse to and from. She graduated from Absarokee High School in 1951. That fall, she began nurses training at Billings Deaconess Hospital. On April 14, 1953, she married Doug Holbert, whom she met in high school. They were married on her parents' ranch. At this time, Marilyn was busy in nurses training and Doug was serving in the Air Force during the Korean War. She graduated with her nursing degree from Billings Deaconess Hospital in 1954. That same year, Doug and Marilyn settled in Billings. They had two sons, Keith and Todd, whom Marilyn stayed home with until the youngest was 5. She then continued her career as a pediatric nurse for a total of 28-½ years at Billings Clinic. Marilyn continually expressed her love of caring for people even after her retirement. Her outlook on life was, "Don't mess with my kids, dogs or money!" Her hobbies included sewing, knitting and solving crossword puzzles. Marilyn is survived by her sons, Keith (Kathy) of Columbus, Todd (Lecia) of Billings; grandkids, Melissa (Joel), Doug (Jaime), Charlie, Tedeen and Kyli; great-grands, Tyra, Max and Lucas; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and siblings. Special thanks to friends Carrie, Marcia and Norma for their time spent comforting Marilyn. Additional thanks to the staff at Sweetwater Retirement, Rocky Mountain Hospice and Sapphire Suites for her care. Visitations and services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 30, at Absarokee Community Congregational Church. Burial will be at Rosebud Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
