Hoefler, 65, of New Vienna, died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center-Dyersville, after a long courageous battle with cancer. Hoefler, 65, of New Vienna, died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center-Dyersville, after a long courageous battle with cancer. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 25, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, New Vienna, with the Rev. John O'Connor officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 24, at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where a parish scripture service will be at 5 p.m. She was born on Nov. 21, 1942, in New Vienna, daughter of Gilbert and Mary (Sabers) Funke. She married John G. Hoefler on Nov. 24, 1962, in Worthington. Together, they raised their family and farmed near New Vienna where she was often seen driving the MacDon Hay Bine. Marilyn was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, where she was a youth director for many years, and the St. Boniface Parish & Altar Society. If anyone needed anything, Marilyn always was eager and ready to help. She was a naturally warm and caring wife, sister, mother, grandmother and friend. She had a genuine smile and heartwarming personality. She enjoyed spending time with family and especially enjoyed the close relationships she had with her grandchildren, making each of them feel special. Survivors include her husband, John G.; six children, Doug (Nancy) Hoefler, Craig (Karen) Hoefler, Keith (Brenda) Hoefler and John J. Hoefler, all of New Vienna, Dawn (Steve) Wilwert, of Epworth, and Todd (Traci) Hoefler, of Mechanicsville; 20 grandchildren, Matt, Logan, Quinton and Becca Hoefler, Travis, Megan and Dylan Hoefler, Raegan, Reid Hoefler, Devyn, Austin, Jenna and Ethan Hoefler, Brandon, Mitchel, Trevor, Bryce Wilwert, Daphne, Rhyan, Hayden Hoefler; a step great-granddaughter, Mia Wilwert; a sister, Joan (Art) Weber, of Dyersville; step-siblings, Neil Gavin and Gary (Gloria) Gavin, both of Cascade, Mark (Kate) Gavin, of Williamsburg, Greg (Peggy) Gavin, of Shreveport, La., Gwen Kukla, of Chicago, Keneth Gavin, of France, and Phyllis (Michael) Mott, of England; brothers and sisters-in-law, Mary Ellen Hoefler, of Lamont, Germaine Schilling, of Zwingle, Clem (Joan) Hoefler, of New Vienna, Mary Ann (Al) Geers, of Marion, Eileen (Jim) Simon, of Farley, and Dave (Joyce) Hoefler, of Dyersville. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Pam, in 1987; infant sisters and brothers; brothers-in-law, Arnold Hoefler and Lloyd Schilling; and a step sister-in-law, Sherry Gavin, Neil's wife.
