Description	:	Marilyn Ruth Hotchkiss Rice, 82, of Burlingame went to be with the Lord at home surrounded by her three daughters and husband Carl of 65 years on July 10, 2021. Marilyn was born east of Burlingame, first-born to Neal George & Ruth Johnson Hotchkiss on August 5, 1938. A coal miners' daughter. She attended schools in Burlingame. She was Salutatorian Class of 1956, missing Valedictorian by a half point. Marilyn worked at Beck's Lumber in her senior year and Mr. Beck said she was the best bookkeeper he ever had. Read More	Marilyn Ruth Hotchkiss Rice, 82, of Burlingame went to be with the Lord at home surrounded by her three daughters and husband Carl of 65 years on July 10, 2021. Marilyn was born east of Burlingame, first-born to Neal George & Ruth Johnson Hotchkiss on August 5, 1938. A coal miners' daughter. She attended schools in Burlingame. She was Salutatorian Class of 1956, missing Valedictorian by a half point. Marilyn worked at Beck's Lumber in her senior year and Mr. Beck said she was the best bookkeeper he ever had. She met her husband Carl at the Roller Rink in Burlingame. They were married August 26, 1956, at the Federated Church in Burlingame then settled in Carl's hometown, Overbrook KS; to this union three daughters were born, Patti, Pam & Peggy. Marilyn was a stay-at-home mother until the girls were school age. She started her career as one of the first employees at Brookside Manor. She then worked at BCBS and retired after 28 years. While still working, she completed her Associates Degree at ACCC. Marilyn & Carl moved to her hometown of Burlingame in 1973, where they built their new home and have resided for 48 years. Marilyn enjoyed reading, playing the piano, camping and boating with her family. They were members of the Chippewa Camping Club for many years. She was a great cook, sewed all her girl's clothes, enjoyed knitting, crocheting and gardening. Marilyn was a past member of the Methodist Church in Overbrook and the Federated Church. Most of all Marilyn loved her family. She is survived by her husband Carl of the home; daughters, Patricia Lynn Rice Beach (Dennis), Pamela Jo McFarlane, and Peggy Jean Rice; grandchildren, Josey McFarlane (Christina), Jacob McFarlane (Katie), Kelsie McFarlane Kooser (Brad); great-grandchildren, McKenna, Madison, Morgan, Moxie and Jameson McFarlane, Justice, Preslee and Ryker McFarlane, Braxton and Jeffrey Decker, Collins and Kane Kooser. Marilyn is also survived by sisters, Joneal Brock, Janis Grandon (Dennis); brother, Gene Hotchkiss (Kari) and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and several friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, beloved son-in-law, Jeff McFarlane and brother-in-law, Larry Brock. Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, July 17th, at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka KS 66614. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, July 18th, at Federated Church of Burlingame, 322 S Topeka Ave, Burlingame KS 66413. Inurnment will be at a later date
