(AKERS) SORENSEN OCT. 15, 1930 - JULY 26, 2008 Marilynn was born in Modesto, California, going thru the city school system / Franklin Roosevelt Jr. High & Modesto High where she graduated in January 1949. Marilynn married the love of her life in October 1949. Marilynn and her husband Richard worked in San Francisco for a year then she and her husband went to California State Polytechnic College in San Luis Obispo where he graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Marilynn gave birth to two sons while in San Luis Obispo. Keith 1952 and Stan 1954. They moved to the Sacramento area where they bought their first home in 1958. There they lived until 1972 moving to West Lake Village in Southern California for two years, returning to Northern California in 1974 residing in Benica until 1986, where she worked as a Secretary/Accountant for the Short Stop Convenience Store chain. Then moving to their dream home in Mount Aukum for 16 years where she was active in the Needlers Group. Finally settling down in a gated retirement community in Oakdale, California, where Marilynn was very active in the Crafty Ladies, knitting and sewing for charitable groups. In 1963 Marilynn and her husband began boating in the N. California Delta Region, even passing under the Golden Gate Bridge out along the Pacific Ocean coast lines. In 1983 they switched from a 31 foot yacht to a 25 foot land yacht (RV trailer), where they traveled from coast to coast and from Canada down into Mexico as far as the tip of Baja. At home she loved to cook gourmet meals and entertain family and friends. She was preceded in death by her sister Jackie, brother Howard, father Leroy, son Keith, mother Lillian and sister Joyce. She is survived by husband, Richard of Oakdale, son Stan of West Sacramento, sister Darlene of Turlock and many more family and friends. Marilynn will be missed dearly. She's the greatest Mom a son could ever ask for. She was laid to rest Friday, August 1st at the Patterson District Cemetery, Patterson. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be sent to your local Hospice or Modesto Community Hospice, 4368 Sypres Way, Modesto, CA 95356. Services conducted by Hillview Funeral Chapel, Patterson. She was a patient of mine when she was in Kaiser Manteca for a brief time. I did several xrays and CT scans of her, and I loved her the very minute I met her. I can only follow up a patient's care to a certain extent without breeching privacy, so when I read her obituary in the Bee, I was deeply saddened by her passing. I only hope that in this time of sorrow, it helps a little bit knowing what an impact she had on me, and a delightful lady I found her to be.
