Petersen May 7, 1926 - April 7, 2016 Marion Dorothy Petersen was born May 7, 1926, the daughter of Herman and Minnie Boyens. She died Thursday, April 7, 2016, at her home in the Silveridge Assisted Living Apartments in Denison, Iowa, at the age of eighty-nine. Marion was born on a farm in Hanover Township near Denison, Iowa. She was baptized into Christ June 30, 1926 and confirmed in the Lutheran faith April 6, 1941. After completing her education in a rural school near her home, she helped her family on the farm for a few years. She was united in marriage to Edmund Petersen on April 6, 1947 at Zion Lutheran Church, Denison. The couple made their home on farms near Denison and Charter Oak and were blessed with the birth of four children. Marion enjoyed working on the farm with her husband and had her specific responsibilities in the home. As a couple, they could often be found dancing in the kitchen at home and would go to dances with other couples. They enjoyed traveling together around the United States and Europe, and went on several trips through the bank and REC. Marion was a faithful and devoted member of Zion Lutheran Church, their Ladies Aid, Voters Assembly and Craft Time. She was a strong supporter of her church and Mission Central and an active member of the Farm Bureau. Marion was an excellent cook, especially making cinnamon applesauce with raisins, pickled beets, and baking rye bread. She enjoyed her vegetable and flower gardens, embroidering and quilting, and helping on the farm. In her leisure time, Marion enjoyed watching the “Lawrence Welk Show,” listening to polka music on the radio and family gatherings. She kept daily journals of their lives together and special events. In 2009, the couple moved to Denison. Marion is preceded in death by her husband, Edmund; her parents; and her in-laws, August and Mahala Petersen. Survivors include: two daughters, Lanette and her husband, Bob; Lajean and her husband, Lee; two sons, Larry and his wife, Marianne; Lowell and his wife, Terri; twelve grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren and the anticipation of two great-grandchildren; one sister, Laverne and her husband, LaVerne; sisters-in-law Bernice and her husband, Carl; Betty and her husband, Dennis; Arlis; and brother-in-law Earl and his wife, Barb.
