He attended schools in Rapelje and Laurel. He was drafted into the Army at 18 and went through basic at Ft. Ustus, Va., then was ordered to Ft. Mead and Ft. Ord. He was ordered to the Philippines and spent three months on the island of Layte before hitting the beach at San Marcelenas, Luzane. He was stationed in Luzane until Jan. 6, 1946. He was born March 22, 1924, at his parents' homestead near Rapelje. He attended schools in Rapelje and Laurel. He was drafted into the Army at 18 and went through basic at Ft. Ustus, Va., then was ordered to Ft. Mead and Ft. Ord. He was ordered to the Philippines and spent three months on the island of Layte before hitting the beach at San Marcelenas, Luzane. He was stationed in Luzane until Jan. 6, 1946. On Jan. 26, 1946, he was discharged at Ft. Lewis, Wash. He was very proud to have served his country. He went to work in the railroad car shops and later drove a Yellowstone bus in the summer of 1950. He went to work as a postal mail carrier in 1951. He started working for Union Tank on Aug. 6, 1951, where he worked until his retirement. He married Mildred E. Dahlstrom, Feb. 6, 1953. Keith was a very active 50 year member of the Billy Price VFW Post #3177. He served as Quartermaster for over 35 years. His favorite activity was fishing and camping. He loved the days spent on a creek, fishing pole in hand. And there was always "cowboy coffee" around a campfire at night. Family and friends will always remember fun times at the annual Lake Mary Ronan fishing trips. Keith was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Ethel Dawson; a brother, Russell Dawson; sisters, Francis Anderson and Louise Parenteau; and wife, Mildred "Mickey" Dawson. He is survived by his daughters, Carrie (Tim) Boe of Missoula, Jamie (Scott) Powell of Arizona; sister Marie Motkzo; brother Zane (Linda) Dawson; and grandchildren Kyle and Kendal Boe. Memorials to the charity of one's choice may be made in Keith's name. Graveside service to be held at the Laurel Cemetery, May 2, at 2 p.m. Smith Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. A reception will be held at the Laurel Eagle's Club following the service. Published in the Billings Gazette on 4/16/2006.
