Note: Marion Tipton and Josephine Arrington Stanford had one daughter, Lucy Stanford, who was born in 1876. No other info is known about this child. In addition to the seven children linked below, Marion Tipton and Margaret Jane Branton Stanford had another daughter, Martha Melvina Stanford, who was born 10 Nov 1885 and died 29 Apr 1890, reportedly of typhoid fever. Her place of burial is unknown. ----1951, 28 Sep (Friday), Obituary, "The Dispatch," Lexington, NC: M. T. STANFORD Succumbs At Home In County Marion Tipton Stanford, 97, died at his home on Lexington, R. 6, yesterday shortly after noon following a lengthy illness. He was born in Waynesville May 6, 1854 (sic, 1857), and had made his home in Davidson County for a number of years. Mr. Stanford is survived by four sons, W. R. Stanford of Cramerton. J. E. Stanford of Lexington, R. 4, Ed Stanford of Lexington, R. 2, and D. J. Stanford of Mooresville; three daughters, Mrs. M. J. Styles of Monroe, and Mrs. R. G. Payne and Mrs. Charlie Watkins, both of Lexington, R. 6; 38 grandchildren, 108 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Franklin Grove Missionary Baptist Church near Bryson City by Rev. Will Buchanan. Burial will be in the Watkins Cemetery near Bryson City. The body will remain at Piedmont Funeral Home here until Saturday morning.
