Read More	Obituary for Marjean Ann Hanno Marjean Hanno, 82, of Spencer, Iowa, passed away on Monday, June 4, 2018 at St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa. Wendy Van Tassel will officiate. Marjean Ann, the daughter of John and Amanda (Bockhop) Langholz was born January 10, 1936, at the family farm in Calumet, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at First United Church in Calumet and graduated from Calumet High School in 1954. Following graduation, she attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls but was unable to complete her degree at that time. On May 13, 1957, she was united in marriage to Duane Hanno in Jackson, Minnesota. Following their marriage, Duane and Marjean resided in the Cherokee area before moving to Spencer in the early 1970’s. Marjean was a compassionate, caring person who was always positive and uplifting. She worked at the Cherokee Mental Institution prior to moving to Spencer where she was employed at Sernett’s Department Store and Alf’s Manufacturing. At the age of 68, she fulfilled her life-long dream of being a teacher. She received her teaching degree in 2003 from Buena Vista University and began several years of substitute teaching at the elementary schools in Spencer. Marjean loved to spend time with her family, especially the many trips to Texas to visit her sister, dancing, baking and canning. She was so proud of her “Best of Class” ribbon she received last year at the Clay County Fair for her bread and butter pickles. She also enjoyed the oven competitions at the fair and treasured each ribbon she received. Her Christian faith was abundant and she enjoyed attending church and being a member of the First Congregational Church. Marjean was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Duane and two brothers Lauren and Ronnie Langholz. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Wayne and Agnes Hanno of Davenport, Iowa; Steve Hanno of Spencer and Deb and Doug Barglof of Sioux Rapids. Four grandchildren: Kevin and Kristi Hanno; Derrick (Mel) and Drew (Emily) Barglof. Two great-grandchildren: Arianna and Kaydon Barglof; one sister Janice and Roger Smith of Pottsboro, Texas; sisters-in-law Marilee and Judy Langholz, both of Spirit Lake, several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
