Marjean Paulson, the daughter of Nels and Myrtle (Warne) Paulson was born June 26, 1936, in Peterson, IA, the second oldest of eleven siblings. She was baptized in the home of her grandfather, Rasmus Paulson on November 26, 1936. Marjean moved to Bancroft, SD at age 5, and attended country school near there. She would spend the weekdays with her grandparents while attending high school, and the weekends with her parents, helping care for her siblings. Marjean graduated from DeSmet High School on May 17, 1954. She was employed at Floyds Jewelry in DeSmet. On August 5, 1954, Marjean was united in marriage with Robert Bob Patzwald in DeSmet, SD. Marjean was a homemaker in DeSmet, and continued to be a stay-at-home-Mom after the couple moved to Rapid City. They then moved to Sioux Falls, SD, where she was a homemaker and a daycare provider. In 1972, Marjean accepted a position at Nyberg's Ace Hardware, a job she truly enjoyed. In 1983, she was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis, which eventually forced her to retire in 1998. On October 14, 2009, her husband, Bob, of 55 years passed away. In their earlier years, Bob and Marjean enjoyed having social parties at their home, and camping at Lake Campbell with their family and friends. After retirement, Marjean enjoyed gardening, crafts, camping at Red Barn Campground, and holiday decorating. She loved visits from her kids, grandkids, great-grandkids, and friends. Marjean thoroughly enjoyed the regular gatherings with her sisters. Marjean was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church and the Red Hat Society. Marjean had a wonderful spirit, and a positive outlook on life. Through her faith, she was strong and never complained about the pain of the arthritis. In her final days, she continued to be a blessing to many. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bob; a son, Randy; two brothers, Roger and Garen; and two sisters, Donna and Marilyn.
