Description	:	Marjorie Ann (Besel) Greenamyre, 94, lifelong resident of Leavenworth passed away quietly with family on February 22, 2016. Marge was born July 31, 1921 to Ed Besel and Ann (Aaron) Besel also of Leavenworth. Marge attended Leavenworth Public schools after which she attended St Mary’s College for three years. Read More	Marjorie Ann (Besel) Greenamyre, 94, lifelong resident of Leavenworth passed away quietly with family on February 22, 2016. Marge was born July 31, 1921 to Ed Besel and Ann (Aaron) Besel also of Leavenworth. Marge attended Leavenworth Public schools after which she attended St Mary’s College for three years. In the early 1940’s she worked at Sherman Air Field on Ft Leavenworth and in 1942 she met her future husband, V.B. (Mac) Greenamyre who was an enlisted man in the Army’s Medical Administration Corp. (MAC) stationed at Ft Leavenworth. Marge convinced this future husband to apply for flight school during a movie date at the Hollywood Theater in downtown Leavenworth after both watched an Army promotional film for the Army Air Corp’s new P-38 fighter. Mac applied, got accepted, received his commission into the US Army Air Corps and the both were married on July 18, 1943 in Phoenix Az where Mac was in flight school. Six short months later Mac shipped out to England and was assigned to the 55th fighter group in the 8th air force,… Marge went back to Leavenworth to live with her parents and await his return. That return, like so many others in those war years was curtailed. In late June of 1944 Marge received a telegram from the War Dept. stating that Lt Greenamyre had been shot down somewhere over western Europe ten days after D-Day. Thirty days later she received a second telegram informing her that her husband was captured and being held as a POW somewhere in German controlled territory. He was liberated in May 1945, 11 months after his post D-Day shoot down but it took the very busy US Army 5 months to finally get him returned to Marge in Leavenworth. After the war ended Marge and Mac were stationed at several different bases including Ft Leavenworth where Mac attended CGSC. In the late 40’s Marge and Mac had three sons, Dick and David, born at Ft Leavenworth and Mike who was born at Eglin AFB in Florida. Mac resigned his commission in 1951, went into business with his father in law Ed Besel and eventually took over that business when Mr. Besel passed away in 1955. Mac grew the business while Marge raised the three sons. Both Marge and Mac were fortunate to travel extensively and make many friends. They loved to dance, loved their friends and children and especially loved their grandkids. Their biggest shared pain was the death of their eldest son Dick in 1991. Mac passed away Aug 22, 2007. Marge leaves behind two sons: David and his wife Barbara Romzek and their two children Wallis and Spencer as well as Mike and his two sons Jeremy, his wife Meiken, and Mike’s youngest son Daniel Greenamyre. Mike’s wife Rita has two children, David Sedlock and Laurie Holden. Mike and Rita share 9 grandchildren. Marge was a church going Catholic from her youth up until travel became difficult but she loved and appreciated her faith. Father David McEvoy gave the churches’ Last Rights to Marge a few days before her passing, witnessed by family and friends and all agreed that the connection created in that moment, between Marge Greenamyre and the Church’s representative Fr. McEvoy was absolutely beautiful and that connection created an immediate peace within Marge that remained until her death and will were sure continue with her forever. Thank you Father McEvoy! Marge especially wanted to mention a person she very much cherished, Sarah Giosio. Sarah was our mother’s very loving, caring, funny and extremely nice caregiver for seven years; they shopped until they dropped, shared great lunches, got lost in Kansas City a multitude of times, and simply had fun together. Sarah provided laughter as well as a sincere and loving companionship that remained until the very end. My brother and I can’t begin to explain how important this near mother/daughter relationship was for our Mother and our family. The love that developed between Marge and Sarah was obvious for family and friends to see. I can assure the readers of this obituary that one of the last “mother” instructions I received was that my mother wanted her obituary to mention her love and appreciation for Sarah. What a life, what a generation of Americans, they will all be missed! In lieu of flowers, we ask that contributions be made to St Mary University’s scholarship fund, Xavier Schools or the Leavenworth Lutheran Schools. Visitation will be 10 till 11:30 AM, Monday, February 29, 2016 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:30 AM. Burial will be in the Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery, Fort Leavenworth, KS. Arrangements entrusted to Davis Funeral Chapel.
