She was bom April 29, 1909, near Eldon to James Calvin and Ella Lucinda Houston Thomas. She married Wesley F. Pierce Feb. 24, 1932. He died July 19, 1990. Reared in Wapello County, her family moved to Van Buren County in 1921. A 1926 Keosauqua High School graduate. she was a rural teacher in the county for several years. She was bom April 29, 1909, near Eldon to James Calvin and Ella Lucinda Houston Thomas. She married Wesley F. Pierce Feb. 24, 1932. He died July 19, 1990. Reared in Wapello County, her family moved to Van Buren County in 1921. A 1926 Keosauqua High School graduate. she was a rural teacher in the county for several years. The couple farmed near Cantril for more than 58 years. Following his death, she moved to Country Lanes Apartments Sept. I, 1990, where she was active in volunteer services. She moved to Van Buren County Hospital Assisted Living facility at Village Terraces in June 2003. Surviving are a brother. Paul Thomas, and his wife, Iliah, of Milton; and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Avon, Herbert and Alton Thomas; and two sisters, Hildred Wells and Mamie Sheets. The service will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Cantril United Methodist Church, the Revs. Raymond Doser and ellis andrews officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Cantril. Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. Tuesday, with family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua. Memorials to the Cantril United Methodist Church or donor’s choice may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 14658 252nd St., Milton, Iowa, 52570."
