Description	:	Marjorie Evelyn Nielson was born on November 8, 1916, to Martin and Bertha (Schwabauer) Nielson at Woonsocket, SD. She attended elementary school at Nielson School, a one-room school house one quarter mile from her parents’ farm. Read More	Marjorie Evelyn Nielson was born on November 8, 1916, to Martin and Bertha (Schwabauer) Nielson at Woonsocket, SD. She attended elementary school at Nielson School, a one-room school house one quarter mile from her parents’ farm. She attended Cuthbert High School for two years and graduated from Woonsocket High School in 1934. Marjorie always wanted to be a teacher, and in 1940, she graduated from Dakota Wesleyan University. She did graduate work in business and home economics at the University of South Dakota and South Dakota State University, and in library science at Northern State Teachers College. She started her career as a teacher at Erwin High School, Erwin, SD, in 1940. Marjorie married Erwin school superintendent, Amos Tschetter, on August 16, 1942, in a backyard wedding at her parents’ home in rural Woonsocket. They were married for 37 years. She and Amos lived in Erwin, Onida, Highmore, Ipswich, Arlington and Huron. She taught business and created school libraries in Ipswich and Arlington. She served as Junior High Media Specialist in Huron for fourteen years. She retired in 1981 after thirty-one years in education. She enjoyed her many years as an educator, and especially the relationships with students and fellow teachers. Amos passed away on August 31, 1979. In 1989, she moved to Mitchell. She married Lyndon Bates on August 18, 1990. Lyndon was a 50-year friend of Amos and Marjorie, having served as best man at their wedding in 1942. Lyndon and Marjorie lived in Mitchell and were married for 19 years. Lyndon passed away on October 9, 2009. Marjorie was a member of South Dakota Education Association and National Education Association. She was active in the First United Methodist Church, serving as teacher, staff member, lay speaker and local, district and state United Methodist Women officer. She was a member of Retired Teachers Association, Order of Eastern Star and Delta Kappa Gamma. Marjorie was honored to serve as president of the Avera Brady Health & Rehab Residents’ Council. Marjorie was appreciative of the loving attention from staff and friends at Avera Brady. Marjorie was a generous and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who was happiest when surrounded by her family. She especially cherished family get-togethers where she could serve a delicious meal. She enjoyed caring for her grandchildren when they were little and attending their events as they grew up. Marjorie is survived by her children: Jean (Jim) Beddow, Sioux Falls; Nancy (Jack) Theeler, Mitchell; Dwight (Barbara) Tschetter, Minnetonka, MN; seven grandchildren: Jay (Itsuko) Beddow, Tokyo, Japan; Jana (Brendan) Johnson, Sioux Falls; Tyson (Camela) Theeler, Sioux Falls; Brett (Stephanie) Theeler, Pearland, TX; Jill (Todd) Schlekeway, Sioux Falls; Jason (Gina) Tschetter, Prior Lake, MN; Lee Tschetter, Hopkins, MN; nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Wallace Nielson, Austin, TX; and six nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Amos Tschetter, husband Lyndon Bates, her sister Mabel Nielson and her brothers, Wayne & Kenneth Nielson; and an infant son, Perry Lane.
