Read More	Marjorie Faye Nieveen of Panama, Nebraska March 12, 1924 - April 29, 2019 Marjorie (Huetson) Nieveen was born on March 12, 1924 to Earl and Nelle (Mollins) Huetson, in Sutton, NE. She was the 3rd of 6 children, Beth, Pauline, Dorothy, Willard (Bill), and Russel. Elementary school was at Sunnyside Country School and high school was in Adams. She graduated in 1941 from Adams High School. She had taken normal training while in high school and after graduating she taught for 2 years at Pella Country School. During Marjorie's early years, her parents had to scrimp and save to make ends meet. Earl and Nelle had big gardens, cut their children's hair and did what most families did in the depression to make ends meet. For fun they enjoyed playing games with other families and relatives. Marjorie worked during high school in a beauty shop. She always loved dancing and even after Marjorie and Melvin married, they continued do go to occasional dances and enjoyed playing cards with other couples. Marjorie met Melvin on a double date while attending a movie in Sterling. They were both dating someone else but after that they began dating each other. Melvin was drafted in 1942 and in 1943 he was stationed in New York State. Marjorie and Melvin married on July 22, 1943 in the First Baptist Church of Watertown, N Y. Melvin was a tank commander in Europe and helped close out WWII. He was able to come home in 1945 and began farming with the help of Marjorie. They had 3 children: Roger, (Shirleen) Nieveen of Bellwood, NE; Melanie (Ken) VerMaas of Lexington, NE; Kay (Don) Softley of Grant, NE. All three were encouraged to participate in sports and other school activities and were kept busy with farm chores when they were at home. Church activities were a central part of the family's lifestyle. Marjorie was Melvin's helper on the farm and she still took time to sew quite a few clothes and mend jeans. She kept Melanie and Kay involved in piano lessons and 4-H. All three children were encouraged to go to college and earned degrees. Roger and Melanie got degrees in education and Kay in nursing. After Melvin passed away in 1998, Marjorie moved to Panama where she continued to garden, play cards, remain active at Pella Reformed Church and sew. She began to quilt and enjoyed working on projects alone and with others. Always she was the hostess at her home for family events and many times her grandchildren's friends stayed at her house. Every Christmas Eve, the family has gathered for church, food and to exchange gifts. Over the years the amount of people overnight has drastically changed. When the grandkids were all youngsters, they slept on mats in the living room while couples got the extra beds. Marjorie's family has become quite large. She has 12 grandchildren, Lance, Lea, and Lynn Nieveen; Sean, Seth, and Ty Denney; Chad, Craig, Chris and Curt Softley; Ken VerMaas III & Kimberly Sutton. She has 34 great grandchildren: Mariah, Sydney, Jacob, and Reva Nieveen; Jenna, Josh, Josie, Weston, Cassidy, Evan, Bryce, Hadley, Kellen, Jett, Caitlyn, and Delaney Denney; Hanna and Paige Christianson; Grace, Blake, Caylie, Carly, Cydney, Colton, Celia, Tatum, Tyler Belle, and Trey Softley, Maddi, Kalli, Abbi and Cammi Sutton; Kenadi and Delaney VerMaas. Marjorie would have also been great-grandma to two twin boys that are to be expected. Funeral Services for Marjorie will be 10:30 AM on Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at the Pella Reformed Church. Pastor TJ South will officiate. Interment will follow in the Pella Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00P-8:00P at the Butherus, Maser & Love Funeral Home, 211 East 1st Street, Hickman 68372.
