Description	:	Marjorie Hofer was born June 28, 1922 to Jacob L. and Annie S. Hofer. She went to be with the Lord on Oct. 6, 2010 at the age of 88 at Oakview Terrace Nursing Home in Freeman, S.D., after a battle with cancer. Read More	Marjorie Hofer was born June 28, 1922 to Jacob L. and Annie S. Hofer. Upon confession of faith, during her senior year in high school, she joined the Hutterthal Mennonite Church by baptism. Marjorie received her elementary education in a rural school District #51. She attended Freeman Academy, graduating in 1939 and then earned a teaching certificate from Freeman Jr. College and taught country school for seven years. On June 29, 1947, Marjorie was married to Sam A. Hofer. They took over the operation of his parent's farm which had been homesteaded by grandfather Michael R. Hofer, known as Rutschield. His parents continued to live with them for about six years after which they retired to Freeman. After her marriage, Marjorie became a member of the Salem M.B. Church where she served faithfully in many capacities including Sunday school teacher, mid-week class teacher, ladies fellowship group and helped in the church library. Marjorie enjoyed Christian radio and was a daily listener to 90.5. Her interest in evangelism was met by becoming a founding member of the Freeman Christian Women's Club, where she served on the staff in some capacity. She also was responsible for Bible study groups that met during the winter months. Her life, and that of her husband, was brought much joy when a daughter, Skyla Rae, was born June 21, 1959. Skyla, husband Brad Dowden, and their children brought Marjorie special joy and purpose in life. Marjorie was a 4-H leader for many years. She also belonged to the women's auxiliary at Freeman Academy, was a board member of the Et Cetera Shoppe and was a member of the Freeman Homemakers Extension Club. She enjoyed traveling with tour groups to the Holy Land; MCC Service & Sight Seeing Tour to PA.; California Fruit Drying Tour and Europe. From 1947 to 1986, Sam and Marjorie lived on the farm. It was in the year of 1986 when Sam was in a tragic accident and was instantly taken from this world to be with the Lord. Brad and Skyla then moved on the farm and Marjorie built a house in Freeman. She enjoyed her grandchildren very much. Marjorie loved gardening and flowers, but that almost came to a standstill when she fell and broke her hip. Life has its joys and sorrows but with Christ as her guide and helper she could keep on serving Him. She spent much time reading her Bible and praying for her children, grandchildren and extended family. Preceding her in death were her husband, Sam; one grandchild, Samantha; one sister, Evelyn; one brother, Kenneth; her parents, Jake L. and Annie Hofer, Dolton, S.D.; her parents-in-law, John R. and Sarah Hofer, Freeman; brothers and sisters-in-law: Arnold Hofer, Freeman, Art and wife Elizabeth Erck, Delmont, S.D., Mike P. Hofer, Bridgewater, S.D., John S. Parker, Sioux Falls, S.D., Kathy Hofer, Sioux Falls, Rev. LaVern Hofer, Huron, S.D., and William Boyce Trousdale and wife LaVina, California. Looking forward to joining her in heaven are her daughter, Skyla, (Brad) Dowden, Freeman; her grandchildren: Jessica (fiance Matt Ashton) Hofer, Sioux Falls, Tabitha (Shane) Rollag, Freeman, Lucas Dowden, Sioux Falls, and Vanessa Dowden, Freeman; great-grand-children: Megan, Cameron and Kayla Rollag; her brothers: Melvin and wife Emma Hofer, Freeman, Vernon and wife Norma Hofer, Freeman, Merlin and wife Sylvia, Parkston, S.D.; brothers and sisters-in-law: Glennis Hofer, Freeman, Mary Hofer, Bridgewater, Florence Parker, Sioux Falls and Jo Kliewer, Redding, Calif.; along with uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews and friends. The funeral was held Saturday, Oct. 9 at the Salem MB Church, rural Bridgewater with the committal service following at the church cemetery.
