Marjorie Steiger was born February 26, 1929, in Leola. Her mother, Lillian, and her grandparents, Gottlieb and Sophia Steiger, raised Marge. She graduated in 1947 from McLaughlin High School. After high school, Marge moved to Aberdeen, where she met George Tarver through mutual friends. The couple married on July 6, 1951, in Huron. Following their marriage, the couple resided in Rapid City where they welcomed their first daughter, Marlie, in 1952. Soon after, they returned to Aberdeen and their family grew with the arrival of two more daughters, Krystal in 1955 and Laura in 1962. Marge excelled at providing a clean, comfortable home for her family and friends. She assisted George with varied office-keeping duties for Tarver Construction Company, which the couple owned. She volunteered for many school, church and community organizations through the years. She was an early hospice volunteer for the Cancer Society. The couple kept busy and worked hard for many years. When George and his crew built a new split level home on Penn Street in 1963 it became the Tarver family home near the countryside although it became quickly surrounded by a growing Aberdeen. The early retirement years were very good to Marge and George. They enthusiastically and dutifully helped their daughters establish and maintain their homes, and gleefully visited their grandchildren in Aberdeen, Wall and Saint Paul. Marge was a kind, caring, spunky, classy and strong woman. She was a great listener and George provided opportunity to practice often. She and George shared an enormous love for each other and for children of all ages. Whenever there was a baby, toddler or youngster in sight, Marge and George were in absolute adoration and delight. By the late 1990s, health challenges started to appear for the couple and continued. Marge helped George through a terrible accident in 1997 and George reciprocated afterwards by taking charge when Marge started needing it. The devotion they shared toward one another during the best of times and the worst of times was special. She is survived by her three daughters: Marlie (Tracy) Trask of Wall, Kristie (Jim) Estes of Saint Paul and Laura (Scott) Wiswall of Aberdeen; grandchildren Taylor, Tara and Tiffany Trask, Meredith, Madeline and Martin Estes, and Libby and Addy Wiswall. Preceding Marge in death was her husband in 2010 and her mother, Lillian Steiger Hauck.
