Description	:	Marlin Pedersen was born Oct. 31, 1937, in Pierre to Lauritz and Helen (Lindskov) Pedersen. He was the first of four sons born to the family. He attended St. Mary's Elementary School in Winner where he began taking piano lessons from the sisters which began his lifelong interest in music. Marlin then played the tuba in the Winner High School band. He graduated from Winner High School in 1955 and attended South Dakota State University in Brookings, where he graduated with a degree in music education and then earned his master's in education degree. He attended St. Mary's Elementary School in Winner where he began taking piano lessons from the sisters which began his lifelong interest in music. Marlin then played the tuba in the Winner High School band. He graduated from Winner High School in 1955 and attended South Dakota State University in Brookings, where he graduated with a degree in music education and then earned his master's in education degree. He began teaching music at Volga High School in 1959. Pete then moved to Gregory High School in 1963 teaching music. Pete and Sharon DeVaney were married Aug.11, 1967, and they made their home in Gregory where they both taught music in the Gregory Schools. Pete taught until 1989 when he began teaching middle school music in Winner. He retired from teaching in 1994 and continued to live in Gregory.He was awarded Bandmaster of the Year in 1988 and in 2006 Pete was inducted into the S.D. Bandmasters Hall of Fame. Pete was known for making music come alive for his students. Pete died on Feb. 17, 2012, at the Gregory Hospital at the age of 74 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and his stepmother, Delight Pedersen. Surviving is his wife, Sharon of Gregory; their three children: Mary Jane Marx (daughter) and John Knowles – Anne Pedersen (daughter) and Sue Schiefelbein – and Matthew (son) and Rebecca Pedersen; four grandchildren Madeline, Spencer, Carter and Alexander and three brothers: Dwight and Dwain Pedersen both of Omaha and Cleo Pedersen of Polkville, N.C., and one stepsister, Ruth Ann McDowell. Funeral Services for Marlin Pedersen, 74, of Gregory and formerly of Winner will be held on Monday, Feb. 20, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Gregory, beginning at 10:30 a.m. A wake service will be held on Sunday evening beginning at 7 p.m., at the church.
