Plaht, 69, of rural Luana, formerly of Postville, died Monday, Jan. 22, at Veterans Memorial Hospital, Waukon, after a brief illness; survivors include his wife, Donna; a son, Robert of rural Luana; two daughters, Sharon Dean of Postville and Sandra Hangartner of Castalia; four grandchildren; and a sister, Arlene Gilbert of Waterloo; he was preceded in death by a brother, Harvey; and an infant sister; services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, with burial in Postville cemetery; friends may call after 2 p.m. today at Schutte Funeral Home, Postville. Obituary: Funeral services for Marlin Plaht were held Thursday, January 25, 1996 at 11:00 A.M. in St. Paul Lutheran Church at Postville, Iowa. The Reverend Wayne Hagen, Interim Pastor, officiated. Priscilla Miene was the organist. Special music was provided by Kenneth Timmerman and was accompanied by Joann Martins. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Interment was in the Postville cemetery. Marlin Roland Walter Plaht, the son of Edwin and Leora (Brandt) Plaht, was born January 7,1927, in Grand Meadow Township, Clayton County, South of Postville, Iowa. He died Monday, January 22, 1996 in Veterans Memorial Hospital at Waukon, Iowa. He had reached the age of 69 years and 15 days. He was baptized March 6, 1927 by the Reverend E. Finck and confirmed March 17, 1940 by the Reverend F. Ludwig, both in St. Paul Lutheran Church at Postville. He attended the Grand Meadow Township country school and was graduated from Postville High School in 1945. On June 8, 1952, he was married to Donna Mae Dickman in St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville. To this union three children were born. The couple lived in the Castalia area following their marriage, then farmed on the south edge of Postville for three years. In 1958 they moved to their present farm in Grand Meadow Township, near Luana. Marlin was involved in football and FFA activities. He was an avid sports fan, especially football, and he loved to hunt and fish. In the last few years, when he wasn't able to be so active, he loved to crack and pick out nut meats. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Harvey Plaht, who died in 1980, and a sister who died in infancy. Surviving are his wife, Donna, two daughters, Sharon and her husband, John Dean of Postville and Sandra and her husband, Lonnie Hangartner, of Castalia and a son, Robert Plaht, of Luana, four grandchildren, Daniel and Debra Dean and Lex and Austin Hangartner and a sister, Arlene Gilbert (Mrs. Troy), of Waterloo and her special friend, Harold Jutting. Also surviving are a sister-in-law, Joan Plaht (Mrs. Harvey), of Postville, five nephews, Bradley Plaht, Mike Plaht and wife, Linda and their sons, Brandon, Shannon and Trenton, Randy Plaht and wife, Cindy and their daughters, Lacie and Katelyn and Scott and Larry Plaht, all of Postville, and a brother-in-law, Myrl Dean Dickman and his wife, Eunice, of Postville. Marlin was a life-time member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville. Casket bearers: Roger Kuhse, Willard Miene, Ronald Fox, Cleo Heying, David Fox, Lester Friederich, Ronald Burger, and Bill Panncke. Honorary casket bearers: Cloy Schultz, Jr., Milton Schierholz, Joe Donlon, George Burger, Harold Panncke, David Schierholz, and Oliver Doerring. Children: (1) Sharon Kay Plaht (2) Sandra Rae Plaht (3) Robert Wayne Plaht.
