Description	:	The grim reaper again cast a gloom of sadness over this locale last week when the news was relayed that a comparatively young husband and father, Marlyn D. Smidt, lost his life in a farm accident. Smidt, lost his life in a farm accident. He became entangled in a corn picking machine which he was operating on his farm nine miles northeast of Lennox about 3:30 last Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 27, 1976 Just how the mishap resulted is not known, but it is believed that he was in the act of cleaning or greasing the picker while it was running when he became entangled in the machine. Another theory is that he might have slipped, the chain catching his pant leg and pulling his legs into the machine. The unfortunate man was found by his father, who notified rescue workers. Smidt was dead when the local ambulance arrrived at the farm. He attained the age of 43 years, two months and 26 days. Marlyn Duane Smidt was born a farm west of Harrisburg on Aug. 1, 1933, the son of John J. and Gladys Smidt. He attended rural school and graduated from Lennox high school. He grew to manhood on a farm east of Lennox. On Jul. 5, 1953 he was united in marriage to Elaine Skie at Lennox. Seven children were born to this union. The couple lived on a farm two miles north, five miles east and two and a fourth miles north of Lennox most of their married life. He was an active and faithful member of First English Lutheran church. Preceding him in death was a son Kevin, who passed away on Aug. 17, 1966. Deceased is survived by his widow; two sons, Galen and Brian, both at home; four daughters, Mrs. Ronald (Cindy) Ludens of Sioux Falls, Mrs. Curt (Debbie) Bartels of Chancellor, Brenda and Pamela, both at home; two grandsons; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John J. Smidt of rural Lennox; and one brother, Myron Smidt of Sioux Falls.
