Read More	Marlys Elaine (Hoglund) Davick, 86, Long Lake, ND, formerly of Minot, passed away unexpectedly of cardiac arrest on February 3, 2017 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane, WA. Marlys was surrounded by her oldest son and family in Spokane, WA where Marlys had been spending her winters. Marlys Elaine was born September 22, 1930, the daughter of Helmer Hoglund (June 18 1908 - Oct 10 1995) and Alice (Jothen) Hoglund (Sept 8 1911- April 5 1954). Marlys married Donavon Dale Davick at First Lutheran Church in Minot July 31, 1949. They made their home in Minot and then later at Long Lake, in the Turtle Mountains. Marlys was a charter member of Christ Lutheran Church in Minot. Don later passed away July 29, 1997. She was the oldest of three girls. Marlys “Mert” grew up in a home her father built. She enjoyed her paper dolls and ice skating among other things as a young girl. She attended school at Lincoln elementary then graduated from Model High School where she met her future husband Donavon “Sonny” Davick. Throughout Marlys’s teen years she became a mother figure to her two sisters Carol and Bev as her beautiful mother suffered a brain tumor that eventually took her life in 1954. The early responsibility, love and nurturing for her father and sisters helped shape the mom, grandma and friend we all knew and love so dearly. After graduation, she and Don were married and very soon began their family. Their 1st son Kerry was born in 1950 soon to be followed by Pam 1951, Keith 1955, Kent 1958 and Keven 1965. As the years went on she reined in her 5 kids, never raising a hand and very seldom raising her voice but letting her children make their own choices, offering guidance through life’s course with conviction, courage and unconditional love. Marlys worked at Sears as the Personnel Manager for several years, she also helped support the family by making and selling Lefse! She was a real pro and shared her skills with many, including her great grand kids! Marlys enjoyed her work with the ASCS office in Bottineau for several years after moving to Long Lake. During Marlys and Don’s life together they enjoyed raising their kids, encouraging them to experience church, sports, music and the great outdoors. In the early 1960’s they purchased property at Long Lake, which set the course for the weekend cabin retreat tradition. Special memories of these choice times shared are deeply cherished by many. She enjoyed the peacefulness and the beauty of the surrounding nature in this setting; interacting with wildlife, her beloved birds, gardening, flowers, fishing, cards, puzzles, internet Facebooking, books, quiet falling snow, Loons calling across the water, a good cup of coffee, a smoke, hearty laughter, time spent with friends and family. The coffee was always on. Really for her the lake home was her Legacy where she hoped the kids, grand kids and great grand kids could come and feel at home for many years to come. In recent years, if not for some strong encouragement Marlys would have preferred to remain their year-round, despite our Dakota winters! One of her favorite things to say in her calm, matter a fact way when the weather was -40 below was “Well that’s ok, I just don’t go outside.” Marlys was blessed with many caring friends and when family wasn’t with her she was perfectly content with a card game, coffee, some toast and Peanut butter. She was well respected, had no pretenses and truly enjoyed just being herself. Her immediate loving family includes her sisters; Carol (Jerry) Hendricks, Beverly (Jimmy) Skinner, Moses Lake, WA; step-brother, Robert Peterson, Franklin, TN; children, Kerry (Barb) Spokane, WA, Pam Abrahamson, Minot, Keith and Kym, Highlands Ranch, CO, Kent and Mary Ellen, Oklahoma City, OK, Keven (Aimee Smith) Davick, Minot; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Donavon Dale; son-in-law, Daniel D. Abrahamson; grandson, Chad J. Davick; brother-in-law, Vernon Miller; her parents, Helmer and Alice Hoglund; and step mother, Ida Mae Peterson. Thompson-Larson Funeral Home
