Marlys Lorene Lohr was born December 16, 1921 in Clear Lake, to James Joseph and Ruby Rilla (Hartwig) Wilson. She was the youngest of four children born to her parents and moved to Rockford in her early youth, where she has since resided. Marlys graduated from Rockford High School among the class of 1939. On November 1, 1939, Marlys was united in marriage to Robert Alvin Lohr in Mason City. They became the proud parents of four children and celebrated 67 years of marriage. Marlys enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially playing a good round of golf. Some of her other leisure activities included playing bridge and fishing with Bob or challenging him to a game of gin rummy. She was an avid sports fan of the Minnesota Vikings, the Iowa Hawkeyes, the Green Bay Packers and the Arizona Cardinals. Marlys and Bob were often found seated in various school bleachers, cheering for and watching their favorite athletes, who of course, were their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Marlys and Bob traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and Canada, sharing a special and memorable trip together in Ireland. Until this last winter, they spent the past 28 years wintering in warmer states, mostly in Arizona. Marlys was an active and faithful member of the First United Methodist Church in Rockford and the United Methodist Women. She was also a former cub scout den mother and former member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Those who will greatly miss and cherish Marlys' memory are her husband, Robert A. "Bob" Lohr of Rockford; her two daughters, Sharon Ginther of Mesa, Ariz. and Bobbi (Bob) Stubbs of Santa Ana, Calif.; her two sons, Don (Jan) Lohr of Schaumburg, Ill. and Jack Lohr of Carmel, Ind.; her two sisters-in-law, Phyllis Brallier of Pasadena, Calif. and Dorothy Lohr of Manitou Springs, Colo. She was a loving and caring grandmother to Marty (LeAnn) Ginther, Scott (Pam) Ginther, Laurie (Kevin) Carlson and Jill (George) Nicolich; great-grandmother to Colter, Cory, Lacey, Toni and Tyler Ginther and Johnny Reiser; and great-great grandmother of three. Marlys will also be deeply missed by six nieces, four nephews and numerous other relatives and friends. Preceding Marlys in death are her parents, James and Ruby Wilson; her two brothers and sister-in-law, Woodrow and Alice Wilson and Harley and Hazel Wilson; her sister and brother-in-law, Ione and Milton Lewis; her two brothers-in-law, Ned Lohr, Dale Brallier and and one niece, Debbie Donner.
