Read More	Death of Mr. M. D. Myers. Mr. M. D. Myers died at his residence in Monroe about 10 o'clock Friday morning, after an illness of several weeks in which he suffered intensely of heart trouble. The night before he died was spent sitting in a chair in the greatest pain. Funeral service was held at the residence on Saturday morning by Rev. J. A. Bivens, an old and warm friend of the deceased, who spoke warmly and sincerely of the character and life of his friend. The pall bearers were Messrs. D. A. Houston, J. D. McRae, B. A. Horn, H. E. Copple, J. R. English and W. H. Phifer. Mr. Myers was 70 years old the 9th of this month. He was born in Anson county, twelve miles west of Wadesboro, and was a Confederate soldier in the company of Capt. Turner, Company A, 48th Regiment. He moved to Monroe 34 years ago and has since been a fixture here. He leaves a wife and three children, Mrs. Lydia Myers, Mrs. J. C. Smith and Mr. Brooks Myers. Messrs. S. H. and R. B. Myers, Mrs. Redfearn of Charlotte and Mrs. Morgan of Monroe are full brothers and sisters of the deceased, and Messrs. J. W., J. F. and S. J. Worley of Charlotte and Mr. E. D. Worley and Mrs. Willard Wolfe of Monroe are half brothers and sister. No straighter man than M. D. Myers ever lived. And no man ever walked closer the path of duty as he saw it. For most of the years of his life in Monroe he was a public officer of one position or the other. As town marshal in the days when the town was going through its rough period he enforced the law as it then existed with infinite patience, courage and tact. In those days it was not customary to arrest men for town offenses as closely as today, and in pursuance of this policy he never arrested a drunken man until he had tried carefully to get the un fortunate fellow to go home and behave himself. But he never failed or feared to take any man and he did so easily and even kindly, that he scarcely incurred the ill will of any. In the discharge of his duty he knew no man; before the law every man looked exactly alike to him. This unswerving devotion to duty, coupled with his naturally quiet and retiring disposition, gave him somewhat the reputation of a stern or cold man, but nothing was farther from the truth. He was warm hearted, and those who knew him in his home knew that he was one of the best of husbands, devoted to his family and never weary in kindness to them. And to the poor he was a cheerful and willing helper. For many years he was deputy sheriff' and in that office, he displayed the same characteristics that made him useful and respected in the other positions. In early life Mr. Myers joined the Baptist church at Mt. Moriah and never moved his membership away. He knew he was to die in a few days and he told Rev.
