Read More	Edgar Sun (Edgar, NE) Fri, Oct 11, 1929 - Pg 1 Marquis DeLafayette Brown was born January 1, 1858, in Cannelton, Indiana, where he grew to manhood, when he started westward and spent about three years in Illinois, when he continued his westward journey and settle in Clay County, Nebraska and it was here he became acquainted with Miss Leona Taylor and in September 1883, these young people were united in marriage. In a short time they moved onto their homestead near Colby, Kansas. Here they lived for six years and went through the hardships of a frontier life and helped in the development of the new country into what those beautiful plains now are. After spending about six years in the above named territory, they decided to move back to Clay County, Nebraska, and settled on the farm about two miles northwest of Edgar, which was their home for many years until about five years ago, when they moved to Edgar. It was here they resided until his death which occurred last Thursday afternoon at about 3:15, being 71 years, ten months and two days of age. To this union were born five children, four sons and one daughter, whom all survive their father except Fern, who died last January 4th. About 30 years ago he confessed his faith in Christ and became identified with the restoration movement and placed his membership with the Church of Christ of Edgar, where it remained to the time of his death. He was a deacon in the church and a member of the executive board at the time when the end came. He was never so happy as when he could be in the house of the Lord, and in the service of his Master. He was a true companion, a loving father and respected by all who knew him. The funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 at the Christian Church, conducted by his pastor, who spoke words of comfort to a large company of neighbors and friends who had gathered to pay a tribute of respect to a companion, a father and a neighbor, from the words of Solomon Prov. 14:32, "The righteous hath hope in death". The music was furnished by a mixed quartet, who sang very beautifully, with Mrs. Wm Nicholls at the piano. The floral offerings were elaborate and expressive of the high esteem by which he was held. The pallbearers were six of Mr. Brown's oldtime friends and associates. He leaves to mourn his loss his loving companion, four sons, Birthel B. of Merriman, Nebraska; Bingham and Harold, both of Hentlin, South Dakota; Oman of Hastings, Nebraska; one brother, A. D. Brown of Edgar, Nebraska, seven grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Charles Fuchs of Oxford, Nebraska; Mrs. Seth Parks of Cedaredge, Colo.; Mrs. Viola Wempen of Moweaqua, Ill.; Mrs. John Paehlein of Cannelton, Indiana; besides many neighbors and friends. May the bereaved ones have strength for this sad experience in life. are the wishes of the writer and friends.
