C., 18th Massachusetts Infantry. He married Joanna Atwood at Middleboro, MA on Feb. 12, 1858. They were the parents of William H., born Dec. 1, 1858; Eli F., born Sept. 5, 1863; Charles F., born Oct. 5, 1865; Edward P., born June 25, 1864; Harry E., born March 5, 1871; and Grace A., born Aug. 25, 1873. Marshall was a 29 year-old Farmer from Carver, when he enlisted in that town on Sept. 23, 1861, and was mustered into the 18th Mass. Infantry on Jan. 14, 1861 as a Private in Co. C. He was engaged with the Regiment in 1862 in the Peninsula Campaign, including the Siege of Yorktown. He became debilitated by sunstroke on or about Aug. 15, 1862, while the Regiment was at Harrison's Landing, VA. He was admitted to the Regimental Hospital and then transferred to the General Hospital at Fort Monroe, where he was discharged due to disability, caused by sunstroke, on Sept. 28, 1862. Following his military service, Marshall resided at Carver, where he worked at the Ellis Foundry Co., before later moving to Middleboro.
