Obituary From "Ottumwa Tri-Weekly Courier," Tuesday, June 29, 1909, Page 8: DEATHS PARKER.–Saturday, June 26, at Sacramento, Cal., D.M. Parker, while en route home from a visit with his son, George Parker of Princeton, Cal. The decedent was 76 years of age at the time of his death and was a former resident of 329 Lillian street until December, last year, when he left for the coast to visit his son. He was preceded in death several months ago by his wife. The remains will be brought to Ottumwa and the service held at the Sullivan chapel at 131 West Second street. The time will be announced later. --------------- Obituary From "Ottumwa Tri-Weekly Courier," Tuesday, July 13, 1909, Page 7: M.D. Parker. M.D. Parker was born in Virginia in 1834, and came to Jefferson county with his father's family in early life. He remained in this place until he was united in marriage to Miss Nancy C. Dunn, Jan. 3, 1861. After their marriage they resided on a farm near Eldon until 1902, when they located in Ottumwa, where Mrs. Parker died July 12, 1908. Mr. Parker was the father of nine children, six of whom survive him, namely: Mrs. E.T. [sic] Jackson, Pittsburg, Kas.; G.W. Parker, Princeton, Cal.; R.R. Parker, Batavia; Charles R. Parker, Chicago; Mrs. George Randall, Ottumwa, and Mrs. Annie Copeland, Eldon. Mr. Parker united with the Baptist church in Eldon in 1885. Later a church was organized near his home, called Fairview, where he united and was one among the number that built the house of worship. He left Ottumwa last fall and spent the winter with his children in Pittsburg, Kas. Last April he went to the home of his son, G.W. Parker, in Princeton, Cal. He left there a few days before his death for Ottumwa , but when he reached Sacramento he was taken sick and only lived a few days. His son was with him during his last illness. Mr. Parker was one of the early pioneers of Jefferson county whose years of upright dealings in the business world, whose purity of thought and life in the social circles enabled him to close his long, useful life, leaving an example worthy of imitation. His was a life that tells there was in his heart a determination to do his best. He was faithful and loyal as a husband, father and neighbor, and of him it may be said, he was tired, so let him rest from his earthly toll. Funeral services were held Sunday, July 4, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. George Randall, on West Finley avenue, conducted by Rev. Jonathan Lee. Interment in the Shaul cemetery.–Contributed.
