Description	:	Marshall Dean Mullinax, "Monk", 86 of Gaffney, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday January 19, 2014. Services to celebrate his life will be held 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at Mt. Ararat Baptist Church with Rev. Tommy Wright and Rev. Perrin Parker officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening at Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. -8:00 p.m. and all other times at the family's respective homes. Monk was born August 8, 1927 in Gaffney to Hiram and Versie Peterson Mullinax. He retired from Cherokee Finishing after 40 years of service and served as a Deacon at Mt. Ararat Baptist Church. Monk was a beekeeper for 75 years and enjoyed farming. A loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great grandfather, brother and friend, he will be dearly missed. He is predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Mildred Painter Mullinax, two sisters; Ruby McAbee, Kathleen Parker, two brothers; Leroy Mullinax and Bobby Gene Mullinax, two great grandchildren; Faith Mullinax and Jacob Davis. Those left to cherish his memory include his children; Mitchell Mullinax and wife Betty, Marsha Orr and husband Jack, Nell Gentry and husband Steve, five grandchildren; Hank Mullinax, Lee Mullinax, Beth Cain, Kevin Cain, Jackie Davis, two great-great grandchildren; Brendan Mullinax , Carla Cain, one great-great-great granddaughter; Aliyah Matson and a brother; Kenneth Wayne Mullinax and wife, Donna. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Monk's name may be made to Mt Ararat Baptist Church, 412 McKowns Mountain Rd, Gaffney, S.C., 29340 or to DMW Volunteer Fire Department 538 McKowns Mountain Rd, Gaffney, S.C. 29340. Arrangements are under the direction of Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home, Downtown Chapel.
