From a 1903 Nance County, Nebraska, newspaper clipping file, transcribed by Linda Berney: Death of Marshall Oakley - Died, at St. Mary's hospital at Columbus, Nebraska, October 20, 1903 of heart failure, Marshall Oakley, aged 50 years, 1 months and 1 day. Mr. Oakley was born near Krumville, New York, September 19, 1853. He was married to Rose Robinson July 3, 1873, who died March 9, 1902. Mr. Oakley leaves eight children and one brother to mourn his loss. He had been in poor health for some time and on the day before his death was taken from his home at Pinnacle Hill to the hospital at Columbus in the hope that he might be benefited, but in a few hours after arriving there he closed his eyes in death. On Wednesday the corpse was brought back home and yesterday the funeral was held at the house, conducted by Rev. A. L. Kellogg, and the remains were taken to the cemetery northeast of Cedar Rapids for interment. Deceased was in life a valued citizen of the community, and his memory will be revered and respected. He was one of the old settlers of this neighborhood.
