She... Read More	Boone County Democrat 1915 Mrs. F.H. Lyle, a well-known Fifth ward woman, passed away on Sunday afternoon at 7:45 o'clock after a long illness. Death was due to a cancerous growth and for weeks her life has been despaired of. Surrounded by her husband and family the end came Sunday evening. Her illness began a little over a year ago. She was taken to the Mayo institute at Rochester, Minn., where she was operated on for cancer. Everything was done that medical skill and loving care could do to save her life, but without avail. She bore her suffering without a murmur and peacefully passed away after a deep sleep which lasted for twenty four hours. The survivors of her present family are, her husband, Dr. F.H. Lyle of Boone, two children, Mrs. Carrie Eggenberger of Des Moines and Brett O. Lyle, of Boone, and three grand children, Esther, Ruth and David Lyle Eggenberger and Margory Emma Lyle. The funeral was held on Tuesday afternoon at the late home and the Marion street M.E. church at 3:00 and 3:30 o'clock. At eh church a choir composed of Mrs. John Shelley, Mrs. Sam Rodgers, Messrs. C.A. Silford and Andrew Menzies, accompanied by Mrs. Thomas Adamson, sang three selections, the first here given being the choice of the deceased and the two others being the choice of the children. They were "Not Now But in the Coming Years," "Asleep in Jesus" and "Sometime We'll Understand." The Rev. R. Burton Sheppard took his text from Lamentations XXXIII, Verse III, "He doth not afflict willingly nor grieve the children of men." Two groups of pallbearers were chosen, the honorary ones being Mrs. J.B. McHose and Mrs. J.S. Halliday, representing eh Eastern Star lodge, and Mrs. James Troughear and Mrs. Webb Patterson representing the Pythian Sisters. The active pallbearers were Messrs. J.S. Halliday, S.T. Stanfield, R.T. Duckworth, J.B. McHose, H.W. Moffatt and I.H. Blackmore. Large numbers of friends gathered to show their regard, among them being delegations from the Order of Eastern Star, Pythian Sisters and Ladies' Aid society of the Marion street Methodist Episcopal church, in all of which organizations she was an active member until ill health impaired her. Out of town relatives who were in the city for the funeral services for the late Mrs. F.H. Lyle, were a brother G.C. Ostrander of Luverne, a brother in law, J.H. Burlick of Britt and a sister of Dr. Lyle, Mrs. George Dean of Tipton. The former returned to their home Tuesday evening and later today. Martha Adella Ostrander, daughter of John and Jane Ostrander, was born at Birdsall, N.Y., July 23, 1854, and died at Boone Iowa, May 23, 1915, at 7:45 p.m., aged 60 years and 10 months. She was of a family of eight children, four of whom have preceded her in death. There are still living one sister, Mrs. John Burdick of Britt, Iowa, and two brothers, T.M. Ostrander of Bancroft, Iowa, and G.C. Ostrander, of Luverne, Iowa, besides numerous other relative in Iowa, New York, South Dakota and Colorado. In 1873 she was married to John Wesley Norton, to which union was born one daughter, Lillie May, who passed away March 17, 1894, at the age of 18 years, 3 months and 2 days. On May 20, 1891, she was married to Dr. F.H. Lyle of Boone, in which city she resided for the remainder of her life, being a resident of this city for 31 years. She was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church from early life. Religion to her was a serious matter, and her faithfulness in the church was one of her many worthy characteristics. Her faith in God was a reality, and her trust and confidence in Him, even in days and weeks of suffering, grew stronger and firmer as the end of her life drew near.
