GOODALE PASSES THIS WEEK The host of friends and relatives of her home community were grieved the past week at the passing of Mrs. Elmer Goodale, highly respected pioneer of Cedar county, who had endeared herself to all by kind ministrations and a noble and refined life. A large number assembled at the Tipton M. E. church last Sunday afternoon to pay last tribute of love and esteem to one who had spent her entire life in this community. Martha Alice Horn, the daughter of W. F. and Mary Catharine Horn, was born in Cedar county, Iowa, June 16th, 1868, and departed this life September 18th, 1928, at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Charles Bolton, at the age of 60 years, 3 months and 12 days. October 27th, 1889, she was united in marriage at her home in Rochester township, Cedar county, Iowa, to Elmer E. Goodale, who survives her. To this union were born five children, one son dying at birth. Those who survive her are, Roy E. Goodale, Mrs. Chas. Bolton, Tipton; Charles E. Goodale, of DeWitt; Lois Vedepo, of Iowa City. Mr. Goodale spent her entire life in and around Cedar county, Iowa, living for many years on a farm about five miles southwest of Tipton, spending the remaining days of her earthly sojourn with her children, and last of all with her devoted daughter, Ethel, in Tipton. In the days of her early childhood Mrs. Goodale united with the Methodist church at Rochester, but later joined the Baptist church at Mount Zion, of which church she was a member at the time of her passing. She was greatly beloved as a christian woman by a large number of relatives and friends, and adorned the faith of the fathers by a life at once noble, refined and earnest. Besides her beloved companion and children, there remain to mourn her loss, her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Horn, five sisters, Mrs. R. B. Howe, Mrs. A. S. Paxson, Mrs. Orrin Wallick, Mrs. Fred Miller, all of Tipton; Mrs. Arthur Sill, of Wapato, Washington, three brothers, Ward Horn and M. B. Horn of Tipton, and H. O. Horn of Solon, Iowa; also 8 grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
