Description	:	A Sumter Probate Court record (Probate Court of appropriate jurisdiction, books, CD ROM, etc) indicates she and Willie (his 2nd wife) married 26 Dec. 1930. The 27 Dec. 1930 issue of The Item, page 3 indicates that she was the sister of Mrs. J. Clough Wallace in Union, S. C. Martha was president in 1934 of Sumter Branch of American Legion Auxillary (State Sunday, Nov 18, 1934 Columbia, SC Page: 18). Her husband Willie's grandson, Bill Shuler told me in 2008, "She left after Willie died and nobody ever knew what happened to her." “Martha Hicks Shaw”... Her husband Willie's grandson, Bill Shuler told me in 2008, "She left after Willie died and nobody ever knew what happened to her." “Martha Hicks Shaw” remarried in 1935 to Plato Riddle of Hillsboro, N. C. (Durham Morning Herald Wednesday, Feb 20, 1935 Durham, NC Page: 7). Her sister in 1935 was Mrs. J. C. Wallace of Union and the newspaper note mentions Martha Hix Shaw. This is a perplexing situation! In screening old newspapers, there is often inconsistent maiden name spelling (Hix vs. Hicks). So, as of 7/4/2020, I have not been able to find her death notice or obituary. A possible duplicate memorial. N. C. marriages record on FamilySearch gives the 1935 date for Plato & Martha and he being age 32 (b. about 1903) & she being age 35 (born about 1900) and it gives their parents’ names (A. M. Hix & Martha; James Curtis Riddle and Era); and by N. C. marriages on FamilySearch, he’d married before (29 Dec. 1928...Willie Louise Paschal). From her death info, it appears that she returned to her maiden surname sometime between 1935 & 1955. At this point (Oct. 2020), I have no idea whether she had moved to California or just happened to be there.
