She has not been in good health for years but her will and determination was such that she kept going and doing much of the housework until recently. Martha Ann Johnson, daughter of William and Sarah Johnson, was born at Sabula, Iowa, November 6, 1858. She attended school near her home and grew to womanhood in that vicinity. She was united in marriage in the parental home on March 3, 1884, with Henry Jones. After their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Jones came to Sioux County and have spent all of the 50 years which have intervened on the home place with the exception of three years when they lived on the Walter Struble place. Four children were born to this union. One daughter, Clarance Elizabeth, preceded her mother in death in May 1890. The children, who with her husband are left to mourn her passing are John Henry Jones of Primghar, Mrs. Martha Alice Ryken and William Joseph Jones of Ireton. They are also seven grandchildren, Leroy Henry, Viola Mae and Vivian Jones of Primghar; Gladys Martha and Frances Gertrude Ryken, and William Henry and Steve Robert Jones of Ireton. She also leaves one sister, Sarah A. Marsh of Primghar, and two brothers, William Joseph Johnson and George B. Johnson, both of Sabula, Iowa. Mrs. Martha Jones was a motherly woman, beloved by all who knew her. Honesty and helpfulness with her were outstanding. Coming to this neighborhood with her husband among the earliest settlers, together they faced all the early pioneer hardships, yet by frugality and hard work they were able to save sufficient for the years when they could no longer do the long hard tasks. She loved her family and the husband and children will miss the helping kind wife and mother. She traveled life's road with her husband for more than fifty years and now after a deserved rest she has gone to her eternal rest to await her loved ones. She had reached and passed the scriptural three score years and ten and all of these from childhood up were filled with useful activity. Funeral services will be held at the Methodist church in Ireton at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon with Rev. C. W. Tompkins in charge. Interment will be made in the Ireton Cemetery.
