M. A. BEAMER Mrs. Martha A. Beamer, who had been in declining health for several years, died at her home at 0=9:50 a.m., Monday, October 24, 1910, having attained the age of 74 years, 9 months and 21 days. Martha Ann Martin, daughter of Stephen and Mattie Martin, was born in Clinton county, Ohio, on January 3, 1836. She was united in marriage to Henry C. Beamer in 1855, and they came west soon after, settling first in Appanoose county, Iowa. When the Civil War broke out, Mr. Beamer enlisted in the army, and Mrs. Beamer went back to Ohio, where she remained until after the close of the War. On returning to Iowa they located at Bridgeport, living in Monroe and Mahaska counties 30 years or more. Mr. Beamer preceded his companion in death April 19, 1893, and a few years later the subject of this sketch moved to Eddyville where she has since resided. Mr. and Mrs. Beamer were the parents of eleven children, five of whom have preceded their mother in death. The six who still survive are as follows, their names being given in order of their ages: Benton B. Beamer, of Eddyville, Brig. F. Beamer, of New Windsor, Colorado, Arthur C. Beamer, of Eddyville, Elmer E. Beamer, of Hudson, Wyoming, Reuben M. Beamer, of Eddyville, and Lettie, wife of Henry Schmidt, of near Kirkville. Those deceased are: Phillip, Minner, Laura May, Hasty and Sarah, wife of Morna Fall, of Jones, Oklahoma, the last named dying in December of last year. The aged lady was one of a family of eleven children, as follows: Mrs. Rachel Morris, Eli and Pop, deceased, David H., of Mound City, Kansas, Elizabeth, Ed and Jehu, deceased, Chas. of Indiana, Alfred, of Mound City, Kansas, and John, deceased. Of the large family of children only three survive. Her health had been gradually failing for about three years, but it was not until about two weeks before her death that she was stricken with her final illness. Her death was due to asthma and broncho-pneumonia. The writer, in his boyhood, visited on quite a number of occasions at the home of "Grandma" Beamer, as we had learned to know her, and we can truthfully say that we believe no kinder hearted woman ever lived excepting perhaps our own mother. Respected and admired by all who knew her, her passing is felt not only by the immediate relatives, but by a large circle of friends as well, and the Tribune offers to the bereaved its tenderest sympathy. The funeral services were conducted at the M. E. church at two o'clock Wednesday afternoon, the pastor, Rev. C. W. Cochran officiating. A large concourse of sorrowing friends were present to pay their last respects to the departed, and at the conclusion of the services the remains were laid to rest by the side of her husband in the Bridgeport cemetery.
