Description	:	Born in the Colony, probably in 1811. Her mother, a convict also called Martha Capon, arrived in Australia aboard the ship Canada on 8 Sep 1810, and entered into a common law marriage with Israel Rayner. The 1824 "Liverpool Population and Stock" Book, and an 1825 NSW Muster both list Martha in their pages. The former explicitly states her birth year as 1811, and the latter lists her age as 14, which points to 1811 as well. It should be noted that the Baptisms Register of St John's Church at Parramatta records that Martha's baptism there occurred on 18 Dec 1825, when she was a teenager, and gives her date of birth as 10 Oct 1809. This would appear to be wrong for, as noted above, Martha's mother arrived in New South Wales nearly a year later. Martha married twice, both times at St John's Church, Parramatta: 1) to William Cowell in 1827. (He died in 1829). 2) to James Stevens in 1834.
