Description	:	As we noted in our last weeks issue the death of Mrs. Torkel Walker occurred on Monday, March 11, 1895 at her home near Slater, Story County, Iowa. Mrs. Walker was born in a village called High Prairie, in the state of Illinois, on the 24th day of April 1858 and was married to Mr. Torkel Walker on March 22nd, 1878. To this union was born seven... Read More	As we noted in our last weeks issue the death of Mrs. Torkel Walker occurred on Monday, March 11, 1895 at her home near Slater, Story County, Iowa. Mrs. Walker was born in a village called High Prairie, in the state of Illinois, on the 24th day of April 1858 and was married to Mr. Torkel Walker on March 22nd, 1878. After their marriage they have lived several years in Sheldahl, some five years on a farm north from Slater and for the last three years on their present farm south-east from Slater. To this union was born seven children, six of whom survive, their mother and one has gone before her. The six living are five girls: Ella, Ida J., Jessie E., Mattie T., Cora B. and a boy named Howard Oscar. Her mother died when she was only twelve years old and her father Jonas Jorstad died last year at his home in LaSalle County, Illinois. Two brothers, Peter and Osmund Jorstad Residents of Illinois and one sister, Mrs. Hannah M. Howe, residing in Colorado and a devoted husband are left to mourn her departure. During all her illness, which lasted from last fall, she was patient, and awaited the relief only death could bring. She was universally beloved and respected, was a nobel, kind and Christian woman, always ready to extend her helping hand to suffering humanity in whatever it might be. The funeral took place from the Lutheran church at Slater, of which she was a member, and in the absence of the regular minister Rev. Thvedt, Rev. N. G. Peterson of Jewell Junction conducted the services which was largely attended. Her earthly remains were laid to rest in the Slater cemetery.
