Description	:	Martha Pearson, age 85, of Philip, died Tuesday, July 10, 2007, at the Rapid City Regional Hospital. Services were held Saturday, July 14, at the United Church in Philip, with Pastor Mark Ford officiating. Pallbearers were Lance, Brian, Per, Leroy and Jeremiah Pearson, Greg Ferguson, Jason Schofield, Darren Schroeder, Chris Swiden and Seth Zwak. Interment was in the Masonic Cemetery. Martha Doffee was born July 4, 1922, at her parents' homestead near Beulah, ND, the fifth child born to John and Karolina (Flemmer) Doffee. She attended country school near Beulah through the eighth grade. She then worked at home, helping her dad on the farm and her mom raise her younger siblings. Martha moved to Philip in 1945 where she stayed at the Hillside Hotel and worked at the Midway Cafe. The cafe is where she met Pere Pearson when he returned home from serving two years in the army. Martha married Pere on May 4, 1945. They made their home 18 miles northwest of Philip. She worked at the Philip Bowling Alley in the 1960s as a cook and a waitress. They farmed and ranched until they retired and moved to town in February 1989. They managed the Philip Laundromat for five years before purchasing it in 1994. Her husband, Pere, preceded her in death on April 5, 2000. Martha continued running the A&M Laundromat until the time of her death. Martha was a member of the United Church of Philip and the American Legion Auxilliary. She was a past member of the Bad River Senior Citizens. Grateful for having shared her life include three sons and their wives, Philip P. Pearson and his wife, Cheryl, Alvin E. Pearson and his wife, Ruby, and Lester D. Pearson and his wife, Joann, all of Philip; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Sammy Doffee and his wife, Helen, of Cleveland, TN, and Albert Doffee of Bismarck, ND; three sisters, Pauline Morast of Terry, MT, Eva Wegner of Hazen, ND, and Bertha Newbauer of Portland, OR; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends. In addition to her husband, Pere, Martha was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; one sister; two half-brothers; and one half-sister.
