She was born Feb. 24, 1918, in York County to Fredrick W. and Hulda B. (Marquardt) Pohl. On Feb. 24, 1937, she was married to Alfred H. Tonniges in Lincoln. She was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church of York, York General Hospital Auxiliary, York Homemakers Extension Club, L.W.M.L., Meals on Wheels and the York Country Club. She was born Feb. 24, 1918, in York County to Fredrick W. and Hulda B. (Marquardt) Pohl. On Feb. 24, 1937, she was married to Alfred H. Tonniges in Lincoln. She was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church of York, York General Hospital Auxiliary, York Homemakers Extension Club, L.W.M.L., Meals on Wheels and the York Country Club. She worked at Standard Brands for a few years, then as bookkeeper for her husband's plumbing and heating business and later at Hesteds in York. She is survived by her six daughters and sons-in-law, LaVonne and Roger Broadwell of Lincoln, Barbara and Lowell Shum of Lincoln, Bette and Ardean Peters of York, Carolyn and Jim Dose of Hampton, Judy and Mike Burnham of Lincoln, and Cindy and Frank Ahrens of Stromsburg; 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred, in October of 1977, her parents, five brothers and five sisters. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 13, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York with the Rev. Art Brinkmeyer officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery of York. Memorials may be directed to the Lutheran Women's Missionary League. Visitation begins after 5 p.m., Thursday, at Metz Mortuary in York.
