July 10th she was taken with the... Read More	Wed Sept 30 1903 Emmetsburg Democrat: Death of Mrs M E Potts. Mrs Martha Elizabeth Potts, whose dangerous illness at De Pere Wisconsin had been announced in a previous issue of the Democrat, passed away at the home of her sister at that place Friday, September 25th after a long and severe attack of inflammatory rheumatism. The deceased left Emmetsburg last April intending to spend the summer with relatives in Wisconsin and, as her health had not been the best, she thought a change of climate and surroundings might possibly help her. July 10th she was taken with the painful and trying ailment that ended her days and from that time her life was a continued period of most intense suffering. Her remains reached this city Sunday morning and were at once brought to the home of her daughter Mrs JH Gooden, where the customary services wre conducted by Dr WT Jackson of Holy Trinity church at 2pm. A number of exquisite floral wreaths and expressive figures, the offerings of kind friends and relatives, adorned the casket. The interment was in Evergreen cemetery. There was an unusually large procession. The pallbearers were FS Appleman, JH Knoblauch, AT Hortin, FA Small, F Freeman and Peter E Jones. Martha Elizabeth Loper was born in Sullivan County New York September 16 1845. When 12 years of age her parents moved to Ripon Wisconsin. In 1801 she was married at the latter named place to ER Potts. They lived for some time at Ripon and at Delhi Wisconsin. Five children were born to them, three of them are living. The survivors are CH Potts and Mrs JH Godden of this city and Mrs SW Smith of Mason City. Another daughter, Mrs CE Higley, died in this city 18 years ago. Mr and Mrs Potts came to Emmetsburg in 1870. In 1898 Mr Potts passed away. Mrs Potts continued to reside here and lived in a neat home west of the Godden marble factory. She was a pleasant, kind-hearted old lady and enjoyed life. She spent most of her time with the various members of her family in this city, though she occasionally took trips to Mason City and Wisconsin points to visit other intimate relatives. It was her pleasure to make those about her cheerful and happpy and to keep the special atmosphere in which she lived and moved wholesome and agreeable. She was idolized by those who knew her as a mother and grandparent and her rather early taking off in life will be generally and deeply regretted. Among those who were present from a distance to attend the funeral were CV Loper of DePere Wisconsin, George P Loper of Oshkosh, Wisconsin and Mrs SW Smith of Mason City.
