Survived by Husband and Six Children. Mrs Chris Zipse died at her home in New Hampton on Friday, September 19, 1924. She had been ailing for several years with diabetes but she kept up her courage and was up and around until about a week before her death when her condition became very critical, which caused her to remain in bed where death brought relief to her suffering. But the home was greatly saddened when the kind and familiar voice of mother was no longer heard. What a sacrifice a good home must make when a mother who is near and dear to all fulfills her mission on earth and is called to her home beyond. But it is an experience every home must pass thru sooner or later and those who have passed thru the ordeal and fully know the sadness of the hour, most heartily sympathize with the Zipse family in their sad bereavement. Martha Ellen Ilgen was born at Dakota, Illinois on March 20, 1861. She became the wife of Chris Zipse on April 13, 1882, the marriage taking place at Orangeville, Illinois. They made their home at Warren, Illinois for eleven years when they came to Chickasaw County, Iowa, in the year of 1893. The family has resided in New Hampton the past eight years. Those who are left to mourn the loss of this excellent woman are her husband and six children. The children are William Zipse, New Hampton; Mrs. E.E. Brooks, Shellrock, Iowa; George Zipse, Frederic, Wis.; Mrs. N.C. Hartson, Fredericksburg, Iowa; Roy Zipse, Lawler, Iowa and Mrs. Lonnie Tonn, Charles City, Iowa. She is survived by three sisters and three brothers, viz: Mrs. Sarah Fields and Mrs. Anna Fields, both reside in Kansas; Mrs. Carrie Pyle, Freeport, Ill.; John and Dan Ilgen, Stockton, Ill. and Frank Ilgen, Sauk City, Minnesota. There are also seventeen grand-children. The funeral took place on Sunday, September 21, 1924, from the home at 2 o'clock and later from the Community Church, Rev. James B. Bird officiating. Burial took place at Lawler. Mrs. Zipse was a devoted member of the Methodist Church and her fine, Christian spirit radiated with love and affection for her home and inspired her loved ones with right living, right thinking and good behavior. Outside her home, among her neighbors and friends, the same respect and high regard was won her by her kindly ways, which could be described in the following version taken from the bible: "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."
