Description	:	Funeral services for Mrs. S.J. Elliott were held Tuesday afternoon, December 12th at 1:30 at the home of her son, C.R. Elliott, and at 2:00 o'clock at the Church of the Brethren in Beaver, with Reverend H.L. Smith officiating, assisted by Rev. Floyd Newbrough. Mrs. Wilbur Harten and Mrs. Harold Harten, accompanied by Mrs. W.C. Hagge at the piano, sang, "Abide with Me" and "Goodnight Here and Good Morning Up There" Floral offerings were in charge of Mrs. H. Casket bearers were B.B. Doran, W.B. Hunter, O.E. Doran, Ray Clause, E.R. Grove and John Harten. Interment in Glenwood cemetery at Ogden. Attending the services from a distance were Mrs. Nelle Bowers, Mr. and Mrs. Duane Bowers and Delores, Mrs. Carroll Greeley of Bayard, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. Chester Scheerer of northeast of Boone, Mrs. Lawrence Magnell of Boone, and Mrs. G.B. McHugh, Park G and Dixie of Wichita, Kansas. Martha Ellen Thompson Elliott was born in Linn County, Iowa, January 4, 1856 and passed away in St Paul, Minnesota, December 8, 1944, at the age of 88 years, 11 months and 4 days. She was the oldest child of John W. Thompson and Mary Rogers Thompson. Her parents moved to Boone County, Iowa in 1866. In 1878 she was married to Spain James Elliott. Two children were born to this union, a son, Clarence R. Elliott now living in Beaver, Iowa and Elva Mabel Elliott who passed away in 1903. Her husband passed away in Boone, Iowa in 1923. Most of her married life was spent in Beaver, Iowa at which place she maintained a home since her husband's death, but spent a greater part of each year with relatives. For a number of years she was a companion to her aunt, Mrs. C.C. Van Iderstine of Marquette, Michigan. The last six winters she spent in St Paul, Minnesota with her sisters Miss Clara E. Thompson and Mrs. E. E. Freeman, returning each summer to Beaver, enjoying her visits with her son Clarence R. and family; also with her sister Mrs. W.C. Bradshaw of Ogden, Iowa, and Mrs. C.F. Weaver of Ft Dodge, Iowa. Mrs. Elliott is survived by her son Clarence R. and wife of Beaver, Iowa; a granddaughter Mrs. G.B. McHugh of Wichita, Kansas and two great grandchildren Parker G. and Dixie R. McHugh. Also by four sister, Mrs. W.C. Bradshaw of Ogden, Iowa, Mrs. C.F. Weaver of Ft Dodge, Iowa, Mrs. EE. Freeman and Clara E Thompson of St Paul, Minnesota; ten nieces and nephews, twenty grand nieces and nephews and six great grand nieces and nephews, and a host of other relative and friends. Mrs. Elliott will be fondly remembered by dozens of others in our community, because for many years she taught in Boone county schools. She was also the Beaver correspondent for the Ogden Reporter for a number of years.
