Description	:	Martha was born the second child of six to Eri and Olive (Goodrich) Putnam. She lived all of her life in Iowa. She met John O. Ballantyne and married him on Christmas day in 1878. While her husband was getting started in farming, Martha bore him four sons and two daughters. Tragedy struck with her next pregnancy and neither Martha nor the child were to survive it.
