Mrs. James (Isaac) Underwood, sister of Mr. Hugh B. Fox, dying last evening soon after 5:00 o'clock when a sinking spell came on. Mrs. Underwood was 76 (79) years of age on February 17 (?), and had been very feeble for some time, having been very nearly blind. Her sister, Mrs. Rhodes, lives near Coal City. Centerville Daily Citizen, Monday, February 24, 1913, page 4 Obituary - Mrs. Martha Underwood Martha Underwood of Cincinnati, relict for over 48 years of Isaac Underwood, who was a member of Captain G. W. Wyckoff's Co. D. 18th Mo. Inft. and who was killed in battle after his period of enlistment had expired, died Sunday evening, Feb. 23, 1913, aged nearly 79 years. She had been in declining health for the past two years and her sudden demise was due to senile pneumonia. Thus passes a good woman, who for nearly a half century had remained a widow, true to her first love, who fell a martyr to the cause of freedom. She was a member of the United Brethren church. The funeral is to be held today, conducted by Rev. Worrell, assisted by the ladies of the R** Corps, interment in Evergreen cemetery beside her only two daughters and only two grandchildren, while her husband lies in an unknown grave in the Sunny South.
