Description	:	Martha Gatewood, 98, of Sioux City died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2002, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness. Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Riverside United Methodist Church with the Rev. Janice Bennett officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., all at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Mrs. Gatewood was born April 14, 1903, in rural Union County, S.D., Big Springs Township, the daughter of Charles and Dorothea (Rossbach) Hamilton. She graduated from Prospect Hill rural school in Union County. She married Joel R. Gatewood on July 19, 1933, in Elk Point, S.D. He died Oct. 24, 1990, in Sioux City. She was a Sioux City resident most of her life. When she first came to Sioux City, she was a seamstress in a dress shop for several years. She then worked at Younkers as a salesperson for 17 years, from 1955 to 1972. She was a member of Riverside United Methodist Church, Siouxland Senior Center and Royal Neighbors of America. She played the saxophone as a young girl and learned tap dancing in her 80s. She loved traveling and spent her winters with her husband in Mesa, Ariz. Survivors include a son, Ronald Gatewood of Sioux City; five grandchildren, Brent, Greg, Brian and Todd Gatewood and Christine Bridges; and three great-grandchildren, Ryan, Jennifer and Jessica. She also was preceded in death by a son, Darrell; three brothers, Earl, John and Raymond Hamilton; and four sisters, Elsie Jacobs, Margaret Ericson, Lillian Heyl and Goldie Hamilton.
