Description	:	Obituary Mrs. George Hastings died at her home, 622 North Locust street, Friday morning at 1 o'clock, after an illness of five days. Her death was due to pneumonia which developed from a cold she contracted March 3. Martha Jane Teape was born at Horton, Bremer county, March 12, 1858 and was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John P. Teape, who were early settlers. She spent her girlhood days at Horton, attended the public schools and later taught in the rural schools for a number of years. She was married to George H. Her death was due to pneumonia which developed from a cold she contracted March 3. Martha Jane Teape was born at Horton, Bremer county, March 12, 1858 and was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John P. Teape, who were early settlers. She spent her girlhood days at Horton, attended the public schools and later taught in the rural schools for a number of years. She was married to George H. Hastings of Horton Jan 20, 1880. Following their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Hastings moved to Grand Island, Nebr., where they resided for six years. They returned to Bremer county then and took up their residence in Waverly, where they made their home up to the time of Mrs. Hastings' death. Had she lived until March of next year, Mr. and Mrs. Hastings would have celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary. Early in life Mrs. Hastings united with the Baptist church at Horton and on coming to Waverly had her membership transferred to the congregation here. She was deeply interested in her church and its societies and during her long residence here was prominent in affairs that were for the betterment of the community. Surviving her are her husband, George Hastings, and two daughters, and two sons, Miss Jennie Hastings of Long Beach., Calif., Mrs. Fannie Belden of El Paso, Texas, Lee, who is at home, and Frank Hastings of Los Angeles, Calif. All were here except Frank, who was unable to come. The funeral was held from the F. C. Koch chapel Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. W.A. Simmons officiated and burial was in Harlington cemetery.
