Description	:	"BROADUS -- Beloved Powder River County daughter Martha Jeanne Washington-Shepperson, age 63, passed away on Sunday, July 17, 2005, at her home in Anchorage, Alaska, with her special friend Alan Shepperson. Martha was born on Nov. 23, 1941, in Broadus and was educated in Broadus and a country school at the family ranch. She went to beauty school in Miles City and returned to Broadus where she married Paul Ackerman, with whom she had two children, Del and Janelle. Read More	"BROADUS -- Beloved Powder River County daughter Martha Jeanne Washington-Shepperson, age 63, passed away on Sunday, July 17, 2005, at her home in Anchorage, Alaska, with her special friend Alan Shepperson. Martha was born on Nov. 23, 1941, in Broadus and was educated in Broadus and a country school at the family ranch. She went to beauty school in Miles City and returned to Broadus where she married Paul Ackerman, with whom she had two children, Del and Janelle. She was employed as a beauty operator for 18 years by her close friend, Angie Bogner. In 1978, Martha moved to Alaska and started a new life. She worked as a beauty operator for several years then worked on an off-shore drilling rig as a cook and housekeeper. During this time, she bought a house, supported her children and was very much an independent Alaskan. It was during this time she reunited with an old friend, Alan, who was with her when she died. Martha worked hard and played hard. She was very handy with crafts and was always learning new things to make for her family and friends. One of her great joys was camping and fishing. She was very proud of catching a 169-pound halibut, which she would not accept help for pulling in. Martha is survived by her son, Del Ackerman; daughter, Janelle (Mike) Moon of Columbia Falls; two sisters, Charmaine Johnson of Broadus and Laurie (Marty) Martin of Cheyenne, Wyo.; two brothers, J. O. (Jackie) Washington of Broadus and Bob (Patty) Washington of Miles City; and numerous nieces and nephews from many places. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bob and Mildred Washington, and her youngest brother, Mike Washington. By her wishes, Martha was cremated in Alaska and indicated she wanted no services performed. A gathering of her friends and relatives was held at the Big Sky Bar on Wednesday, July 20."
